Rodney,
Congrats my friend. Now that the dust is starting to settle, let us in on just where you are with the build. Next steps and ETA. Dying to know. We've both been a long way since we last talked.
Regards,
Tom

I've already got a title for my next thread: "My Engine & Tranny Install Saga." Just you wait. It will be bigger and better, I'm sure. Either I make everything difficult or someone else does for me.
You want details? My engine was completed by the engine builder on 2/01/08. Yet, I haven't been able to take delivery of it and it's 3/05/08. Intrigued? Just you wait for the details. I'm already a month behind schedule.

Rod, my faith has been restored, but I really would like to see you get on the road after all you've been through. Although, if it's your wish to bless us with another interesting saga I'll be on the website everyday until you get the next saga resolved.

looks like my saga is soon coming to an end. After escalating my complaint via phone call & letter, i started receiving phone calls back. But still no certificate.
today, I called again and asked that they fax a copy of my certificate to me. someone at the DMV was nice enough to do this and i saw that they had my address wrong (26 instead of 46). so my neighbor must have received my form.
i called the DMV and corrected this and i'll wait for the new form to be mailed. i'll also go see my neighbor and ask if he has seen anything like the form in his mailbox.
i called and scheduled my BAR appointment a4for next friday 3/21 fter having my fax copy of the certificate.
getting VERY close to wrapping this thing up !!

The ole "address" boon-doggle. Been there done that. Where's your neighbor's sense of "neighborlyness"? Good luck with the BAR and getting the final certificate.

My engine is finished and still sitting at the engine builder's shop. Between the engine builder, myself and my friend's schedule, we can't seem to coordinate the delivery of the engine. I'm hoping at the end of this week. I went on vacation and I'm caught up in a whirlwind of work at my job and kid's birthday parties on the weekends. Oh, and then there's the kid's sports schedule starting.
I'm crossing my fingers and hope to start the engine & tranny install at the end of the March or the 1st week of April. I also have to change the tranny tunnel to old style shifter location.

Hi Red, thanks for asking. All I have to report at the moment is that I now have the engine in my possession. If I haven't seen so many all-aluminum 482's on this website, then I would be extremely impressed with my engine. On this website, it's one of many really nice looking engines.
I'm getting a wee bit antsy and want to drive it, but I'm now waiting on my buddy "Boots" to get some of his garage/shop time.

CHP VIN Assignment - Check
Brake & Light Inspection - Check
BAR Referee Sticker - Check
Back to the DMV tomorrow to hand in all my homework and hopefully get my plates and tags. Yea!
At the BAR ref today, which is located at a technical/industrial arts type college, I must have had 50 future mechanics surround my car watching it go through the smog test and as I waited (and waited and waited some more) for my BAR sticker. I got the "What does it cost?" question, the "How big is the engine" question, the "What kind of transmission?" question, the "Is it real?" question, the "What do you have for rear gears?" question and the "Is that chrome paint?" question....multiple, multiple times. I'm exhausted.
The smog tech guessed that my CO emissions would be 3.5-4.0 before the test, where most cars today get 0.0 or 0.1. I got an 8. He's never seen an 8 before, supposedly.

I think anything over 2.5 is considered gross poluter. I was up in the same range as yours.

Scott, the leaded Sunoco 110 octane race gas that I'm running may have contributed to the high number.
Just made it in time, Doug. I would have been REALLY upset if the rain canceled my BAR appointment, which was my 2nd appointment BTW, since my CHP paperwork had a "missed box", if you can believe that. I had to do two CHP appointments and two BAR appointments...about par for the course for me. I think I'm getting to know the San Jose area pretty good now.
Funny thing is, I actually tried to make the BAR appointment for tomorrow (Friday/Halloween), but all they had was Thursday available. Phew!

All done. I'm legal. I got my license plates.
However, not without one last problem. The smog certificate number on my paperwork did not match what was in the DMV computer system. BAR just smogged it yesterday. Somehow they got it rectified. Wooowhoooo!
Halloween Friday at the DMV. How fun is that? At least I got a nice counterperson.

Congrats my friend. Now all we have to do is figure out how to join NorCal with SoCal with a road trip. We have until next spring to figure it out.
