Congratulations Rodney!!! What a roller coaster ride!
When are you targeting to have your car on the road? I can just see you recounting your SB100 story to some poor soul who's planning to line up in 2009 and watching them turn white. .

They got Don's telephone number and drivers license number on my certificate. Don's certificate has my drivers license # (except the first alpha character is wrong) and my phone number. I'm going to contact the DMV tomorrow and maybe if Sacramento reviews the errors from both Don's cert and my cert at the same time, together, they will make the necessary corrections without any fits.

That's why we teach our kids to stay in school and do well.
Glad to hear you received your cert...should be calmer waters from here on.

Good thing we didn't have to send an uncensored Jamo down to DMV to "teach em a lesson."
It could have gotten REAL "UGLY" pretty quick!

I've never met Jamo, but from all your back-and-forth with him on this site, when I do meet someday, it sounds like I should have a chair and whip available to keep him back from my safe zone.

I'm glad you got your SB100 but it's good they still screwed a few things up as I have been following this for so long I hate to have it end. I think you guys can see the finish line now.

When I spoke with the DMV manager the other night, she was also telling me about Don's problem(s). I understood her to say that the person in Sacramento handling this stuff didn't want to change a thing on Don's certificate because it's like some official document or law carved in stone and could never be changed. So I'm sure the story will go on, and on.....

As my old Armenian Grandma used to say...thankusbetogod.
Rodney, if you're gonna have a whip, at least wear a black leather corset.

I ran into a similar problem with incorporation papers a while back. The only way I could get it straightened out was to fly to Sacramento and stand in line there. This might be one of those cases. Hmmmm.

They had the wrong vin # on my cert. The Bar inspection changed it. The guy got on the phone and called somone and told them to change it to what the CHP said it was.
You will be alright with this it just takes time to sort it out.
As far as Jamo goes if you hit him once you have to hit him again..........he likes it.

Yep, it's going to be more hassle ahead, but at least I got "a place at the table." I'm in the system, though I wish the drivers license #, city and zip code were correct. I don't think I have to care about the phone number, but I'll try to get that changed too.
Back spinning on the hamster wheel tomorrow.

Well, I spoke with the DMV manager this morning and subsequently faxed over my corrections (drivers license #, telephone # and city & zip code) to her. She said that the person in Sacramento will take care of both Don and I and we should have our corrected certificates in about a week. I'm crossing my fingers.

Ya know, I don't think that having that data wrong on your "piece of paper" is going to be a problem. Looking at your next steps in the process, I don't believe that information is needed:
1. Go to the CHP for a VIN number. [don't need "piece of paper"]
2. Call BAR for an appointment [just need to tell them that you have the "piece of paper"]
3. Go to the BAR. The referee will want to see the "piece of paper" that shows the Sequence Number. Then he just enters the new VIN and the Sequence Number into the cumpooper and he tests your car and then gives you a sticker, which has your VIN, Sequence Number, and breif vehicle description.
4. Brake & Lamp inspection [don't need "piece of paper"].
5. Return to DMV to turn in all of the paper work.
I don't recall anywhere in this process where you need to "prove" with Cal Driver's License # that you are the rightful owner of the "piece of paper".
When all is said and done, the "piece of paper" is never needed again, as the sticker on your Cobra and the records in the DVM database (filed under your VIN) are all that is needed.
Unless someone has experience with "some wrong data" that held up the process, then I would not sweat it and just move forward. Why give the DMV another chance to "loose" your "piece of paper"?
Just my 2 cents...

What happens if you get stopped by the CHP, they check the VIN, registration, and your drivers license number and see the car is not registered to you?
Best get it all corrected ASAP!!!!

Randy, thanks. I kept the original and faxed in a corrected copy to the DMV today. I'm not ready for Step #1 yet since my engine and tranny are still sitting "somewhere" and have not been installed in my car. So, if the revised certificate comes before I actually need it, I'll use it. If not, I'm rocking and rolling with the one I have right now.
Notwithstanding, I'll bet the corrected certificate is sent back to the wrong address again anyway. In fact, maybe Don in the South Bay will get mine and I'll get his.
