The BAR tech whose presence I was graced with was quite adamant that his procedure manual stated that it had to be placed at a particular spot on the firewall so that it was readily accessible and visible. Obviously, based on other posts here, some BAR officials don't take their jobs too literally and understand that some cars deserve a little more discretion with regard to exact placement.

God, I still want to kick that guy in the nuts.

McDoo has been drinking early again.

I doubt there's any specific rule about where the sticker should or should not be placed. It seems to make sense to have it located somewhere in the engine compartment. I asked politely if I could point to where I wanted the sticker placed, and the BAR rep said "no problem."

SSF is probably closer for me, but it sounds like Evergreen knows what to do.

By the way, CHP was done yesterday.
Rodney, mine is on the down-tube that supports the drivers door on the inside.

The BAR in Sacramento directed me to put it on on the passenger side foot box. He even spotted for me to make sure it was on straight.

Dave, I think I have to go take a look at my car before I can understand your placement. Just trying to visualize it, uh, I can't. Do you have to open your door in order to see it? I keep thinking about the support tubes in the engine compartment, but those are too thin for a sticker.

That placement would drive me nuts too. I can perseverate on poor and/or crooked placement too. My backup plan is the passenger side footbox, but I need to understand Dave's placement better.

This is in fact FACT.. I have seen the computer tech instructions on the Bar's computer. If for some other reason they choose to do otherwise consider yourselves lucky. The purpose of the BAR is to remove gross noncompliant cars from the state...never forget that !!! Why do you think they take a basline sample ??? They are NOT going to give out awards at the end of the year...

Holy moly, does that mean not too long from now that the DMV/BAR Sticker Placement Division will start prosecuting owners of cars with incorrect sticker placements.

The adhesive is not the greatest. It CAN be easily moved.

After the Amnesty program is over, Mr. Morganster has his next assignment.

I saw a past post from xlr8or that trying to take the sticker off will do permanent damage to the sticker due to the adhesive the State uses.

Mine, unfortunately, was affixed by the BAR tech to driver's side firewall, he said so that oil and other residue doesn't get on it. Yeah right. It is a heat transfer process that prints the pertinent info on the sticker, and the others are correct about trying to remove it...even with a blow dryer like a vinyl sticker.

Rodney, go for the driver's door pillar at the hinge side. That's where my CHP VIN is and there's enough meat there to wrap that sticker around. You can't see it really when the door is shut.
