Jim, more than likely the car will be titled & registered as a 20XX Custom & not as a 66. However, as a Custom, it shouldn't be subjected to the current emission regulations - downstate & LI may have slightly different rules so call the DMV in Albany & get their custom/kit car registration/title package.

The most important thing you need to know about registering a car in NY, and I mean this - no joke- there is a woman who works up in Albany, I wish I could be certain but I believe her name is Cathy. She will make your life a living hell. She truly will. The others are great, she is a nightmare. If she answers the phone hang up, and keep trying until you get someone else. She's an idiot, and she's impossible to deal with. She seems to enjoy finding problems a lot more than she enjoys finding solutions. She tried to tell me that I had to go through the whole inspection process again after I installed another engine in my car. She's nuts! She also took my name and made sure that whenever I called I ended up with her "helping" me. I couldn't get away from her, she made sure that no other inspector would talk to me, even after two other inspectors told her in no uncertain terms that she was wrong. I ended up dealing with her supervisor who told me "off the record" that she was a big problem. Why she hasn't been fired I will never know.
