He is going to be there for the test and tune, then come back on Friday or Saturday. I think he said it was $75 or $100 for 4 pulls but he seems pretty flexable. He would probably need 10 or 15 cars to make it a great event for him. How many of you are interested? I will be the first to sign up!
How about a contest with the winner being the one who can guess his HP the closest? Maybe we could give some free dyno time to the winner?

The gauntlet has been thrown! This could be the most competitive event at R&G!

You're right Rick, I believe Dean made the track considerably shorter by going thru the grass. It's no wonder he turned the times he did. This year we are going to make him back his best time up with another run on the asphalt.

By the way ask Dean about some of the latches on his GT 40 and what it is like to throw out a parachute at 150 mph.

Count me in for some dyno time. Maybe with a little luck I can break the 100 RWHP mark.

OK, Dean, spill the beans. What happened? Inquiring minds want to know.

OK, I'm only going to say this once. Make sure your rear bonnet is latched before you take off in your GT40!

I was just pulling onto the front straight, passed an instructor in a trick 911, shifted to 4th and at a little north of 150 mph the rear half of my car decided it no longer wanted to be part of the team and took its own path. After I was black flagged, I pulled into the pits still unaware of what had happened. Needless to saw I was quite surprised to see that I was missing a rather significant part of my car. I spoke with the instructor in the 911 afterwards and he told me " As you were coming around me I said to my student "wow, that car is fast!" Then I saw the bonnet go 30 feet into the air and I was forced to test my reaction time!" The crazy thing is that I didn't even know it was gone. The car is so powerful that it didn't slow it down at all.

The pieces are already back in one piece and the new paint goes on next week. Needless to say, LESSON LEARNED.

My wife so casually reminded me that it would be cheaper to hit a few golf balls into the woods!

Talking

Dean,
Don't feel like the lone ranger. I lost mine at R&G 2005 doing about 120 down the straight. Lucky for me the cable held and all I got was a scuffed rear spoiler. I covered that upwith silver duct tape and it was not all that noticeable.
I have since installed some pins that prevent this from happening again.
I have a photo somewhere. It shows a rod pin through the bulkhead by the drivers door. If that pin is not locked then you can't shut the drivers door. Give me a call and
I'll give more details. It's easy to do.

Hersh

PS .... Clois, You're bad really bad.

Glad to hear that it wasn't more serious and that all will be well again with your GT40 soon, Dean. Thanks for sharing. I'm sure that anyone who reads this will check everything a little closer than before when they go out in their car. It's the "little stuff" that gets you.

AHHHHHH, wives. Gotta love 'em. My wife told me that things were so much cheaper when I drove my Jeep offroad regularly for my fun. Then I told her that when I used the Jeep a lot more she told me that JEEP stood for Just Empty Every Pocket. Then she said that the only difference between men and boys is the price of their toys. I sometimes think that she just keeps me around to play the straight man in her comedy routines.

Guys,

Don't worry, I've already provided Dean with a couple rolls of duct tape last week just to make sure it doesn't happen again.

I will make you this promise after that. It won't happen again!

By the way, I spoke with Morris today. Guess who will be leading the seminars on Wednesday's test and tune? Add a dyno, full set of scales and tire pyrometers for everyone to use and you have one hell of a day of tinkering! This is going to be the best year ever!

Guys,

AND I'm quite close to getting a commitment from a local Ford dealer and parts supplier to be there for the week.
