Default 289 gusset suspension upgrades

Update:

Well the A-arm work has gone well. The sleeves were machined as well as the adjusting receiver so castor can be set at about 0.4 degree. Should suffice well for the majority of street use. Will post a few pics once we get parts mated back together.... Thanks to Jeff Tamplin a friend for machining SS adjusting nuts.

Also added 289 third gusset bracket to the A-arm connection points on the frame. This is the way the race cars did it and with heim-joints probably great insurance for track use and the occasion performance romp.

This way the connecting bolt passes through the std attachment point and also on the other side of the Heim-joint. Spreading the load if you will on the frame........ :cool
Sourced outside welding assistance, I did the remainder of reassembly work ........... Yup yours truly.

The original 289 control arms have solid inner bushings that put their mounting bolt in single shear. When you change spherical or heim jointed control arm bushings for adjustment that moves the pivot points away from the single shear to a cantilever, all that on a sheet metal mount. By adding the plates we have now put the mounting bolts in double shear which is a huge improvement in strength and safety. I've ridden in this quick little beast and it sure needs it.

Out cruising with my wife at dusk

The Weber car is so different than std carb car.
The little buggy handles great and really is enjoyable to run.

Out enjoying summer.
Charging issues were due to bad battery. Seems sorted not replacing Autolite yet until fully trusting after some miles are totaled.

Buggy looks good with CCX Joe.

Coincidentally, I was wondering about this just recently.
I would go with a hole in the tonneau. What do you achieve by adding a cover over the gas cap? All that probably does is create a hefty stitched joint that could rub the paint. On the other hand, that might add nicely to the patina....
Cheers,
Glen

Yeah, just stitch an edge to the hole and leave it open. That's my opinion anyway.
