Yes, 1 is enough. I will google, to see if I can find some more pics. Keep them coming, if you find them

Hi Mbechmann

Here in Finland we have also a bit difficult to get v8 cobra registered. Those what are build/registered here are build using chevy g-body (e.g. malibu) as a donor car. There must be minimum 50% left of origin car so these are "body swap" cars. Yhey have used Pilgrim bodies what fit nicely after g-body chassis is shortened a bit.

If someone need drawings for g-body base cobra I may sent those.

I used to build VW engines back in the day. Wouldn't a Type 1 engine be better suited for your project? More speed parts (or used to be anyway) made for Type 1 than any of the other VW engines.

I did consider a type 1, but a type 4 is more reliable. It is still aircooled, and more powerfull A type 4, can be "upgraded" to a 3 liter if needed. A type 1 only 1914.

Usually the formular is:
1. Cheap
2. Reliable
3. Fast

Now pick 2 of them

I have picked reliable, and fast, with the right prices.

I will make it leigther, by using type 1 cooling system. I will also use double dellorto carborators, and pro-designed exaust for this project. All this should make this engine a good one - with about 110-120 bhp.

Hi all
Long time no seen. Things have been very hectic from my end. Long story short, I had to move garage twice, start a new job - twice, move 3 times, and so on. Right now I am in the middle of a move again, but this time, I finally found an awesome garage, with loads of room.
This also means that I will finally start to work on my Cobra. I have found a few parts for it, but havent done any work yet. Hopefully that will come doing this winter. I can hardly wait

A little update. I didnt think things could get more hectic than last year. I was wrong. The new garage I moved into... Well I had to move out again, because the landlord was charged with fraud. He didnt pay tax on the income from renting 5 houses out...
On top of that, I have been sick. Possible food allergy. They suspect gluten allergy, but they are not sure yet...

All in all, the Beach Buggy Cobra is in storage and most likely will be the next couple of years or so...

Hi,

Sad news, hope things will be better ASAP...

In France, few years ago a little company was building some Cobra replica on VW Bug frame and Type 1 engine in the trunk... Don't know if they still produce kits.
It was called "Scobra"... The fib' body was nicely done. But as it was some kind of low cost kits, let's say for low cost builders, the results were often ugly...

From time to time, a Scobra is for sale in France (built, or only the naked body). For exemple, this one now for sale : cheap (from french point of view !), but VW bug titled...

Its nice to see a scratch build here. There doesn't seem to be much of that going on these days. I am always interested to see the ingenuity and talent of the scratch builders.

There are performance parts out there that will allow you to build up that air cooled VW engine up to an easy 200 hp.

Wow, Scobra. Didnt know they existed. Are they build on shortend VW chassis? It has to be shortend to be able to get registred in Denmark.

Besides that, yes I am so hoping things will change asap.

I think the Scobra Company has no more activity since a couple of years or more.
I don't know if the vw chassis they used were shortened, but I can ask to some cobra buddy of mine, who knows well the former boss of Scobra (a fiberglass wizard, who was producing some splendid ferrari P4 replicas, amoung other Porsche tube frame 550, and so on...).
I'll let you know.

I've got the piece of information...

Unfortunately, the Scobra body was designed to fit the VW chassis without having to shorten it. It only needed to move backwards the pedals and shifter, amoung others minors modifications.

I know the guy who owns now the mold for this body, if you want one...let me know

I was wondering what the mold itself would cost That would be cool to be able to make one here in Dk.

What is the price for one if I needed one?

Default VW cobra

I build one of these over 30 years ago when I owned LA exotics we are now B&B mfg but the car was great, I wish i would have talked to you before you got started on this I have a round tube frame with Rack and pinion front end that a VW bolts right into that would work great for your Cobra we put our 356 speedster on it but the cobra would fit. ck out the website at *B&B Manufacturing - :::: - Feel the Thunder - :::: - Hotrods from Kit to Turn Key - ::::
