Howdy Pete,

Looks great! And boy, have you been busy.

I didn't get to come by at Thanksgiving, my brother-in-law's mother fell on Wednesday and that threw a kink into our plans.

Hopefully I can get down that way in Feburary.

Keep up the great work!

Paul

Yep Paul, working lately pretty hard on that bugger. By the next time you come down here - I may take you for a spin, at least in the parking lot (647ft).

John, just saw there is your post between the pictures. Well, this location is for the speedometer.
To comply with the FIA regulations the vehicles needed to be street legal. That included a speedometer.
Mr. Shelby did not like the idea to have the driver distracted and moved the speedometer far right. Problem solved and comply with the rules.

Pete,

Nice pictures, great progress!

What kind of clutch mechanism are you going with ... looks like a cable? There certainly is a lot of wiring and pluming ... I like all the copper tubing for the heater setup

Stick to using the crimp tools. Solder wicks back up the wire and makes it too ridged, so the vibration causes it to fracture, normally inside the insulation so it is a pain to find.

If you have to solder use long nose pilers to hold the bare wire between the insulation and the terminal, it will remove some of the heat and stop the solder wicking so far.

Tim,
yes I use a cable setup. When I first installed the clutch I asked my wife to have a seat and work the clutch. She is fine with the resistance and can handle the car. If she would have problems with the clutch I would go the hydraulic way.

Maurice,
thanks for the advice. The soldering iron which was used to secure the connectors is a Elenco SL5 small tip and the solder is a 22ga Sn63/Pb37. I made sure there is/was no solder in the wire body drawn out side the connectors.
You're right there is a chance of vibration brakes if it is not done right. But I saw more connection fail with just crimping than crimp and solder. Especially in high stress race conditions.

Awesome progress, Pete..your skills are amazing. What a sense of pride you will experience having touched/fabricated/designed every system on your car...

Critique...use 2-5/8 auxillary gauges, please..

Pete,

Good plan to set the car up so someone else can drive it if needed, did the same with mine.

One soldering suggestion, if you have not done so already, use a stiff bristle brush and some alcohol or a cleaning spray, to remove the flux as it could cause connectivity issues over time.

Allen, thanks for sending me the picture - this weekend I will enlarge it to 17x11. Even it is a cell phone picture the resolution is good for that size.

As for the gauges I go with Speedhut, that means these are 2.25 inch - sorry.
These folks threaded me right and on top of that I installed all sensors already.

Tim, thanks - I cleaned them before I put them in. Hawk eye was watching the process -- my wife was 30 years ago certified in electronic soldering, all the tricks and hinds about electrical parts came from her. See below pictures, lots of soldering in this one too...

A few hours ago I posted Jochen Mass's (German race legend) transporter in the "all cobra section" DANG - that got my marble going, sat down and started drawing...

...that would be only 22.5 feet long, just 4 feet longer than my Suburban. Base a 1998 Cadillac De Ville FWD.

Anyhow,

HAPPY NEW YEAR

ya'll!!

Wow, good progress!

Love the dash. And the turbo.

What's that thing by your Harrison tank at the 3:23 mark?
