The mass of the 15 gal fuel cell (filled) is too small to impact the drive ability. The original 427 with the large 42 gal (about 280 pounds) tanks over the rear axle had some problems with the slush. But nowadays this can be cured with baffles and sponges...

Trunk and hood hinge fabrication.

Ready for welding.

First part done , the rods are 0.375 inch.

Attached to the cross front hood crossbar.

Same on the PA side. The full length rod is just for positioning, it will be cut later on.

Same method on the trunk.

Finishing the roll bar. Finalize the forward bracing.

The roll bar is 1.5 inches OD and has a wall of 0.125 inch DOM. The insert is 1.25 inch, pipe is drilled and insert welded.

Nice snug fit.

Floor attachment plate.

Top attachment and the whole bar.

Le Mans fuel cap positioning and mounting.

Base plate for the fuel cap.

Hole cut and plate in place.

The fuel cap sits horizontal in both axis. The plate simulates the top of the tank. The original tank was taller and wider and the fuel cap was directly attached.

Continues work on the trunk.

Framing for the spare tire. The finish drop (4.5 inch) will be fiber glassed.

Next on the to do list (not in a particular order):
Attachment of trunk and hood.
Fabricating door hinges.
Battery box design (in trunk).
Quick jacks front and rear.
...that's plenty for now.

The new year starts right away with some more machining. The 1967 VW turn signal switch needs to be fit on the 1.75 inch column.

Test fit and more work on the mill.

The doors, these are a little more complicated. Started with spacers between the sill and tubing and worked my way way from there.

Door hinges

Next time you will see the door locks mounted and may in the same time the hood in place.

Evercoat 6oz fiberglass and West System epoxy resin - I have good experience with them bonding different materials and holding up.

I have a question for you Allen, how large are your auxiliary lights in front of your 289 and how many watts have they?

Here is some info on the Driving Lights:

Adding Driving Lamps to your FIA/USRRC – “How To”.

They are Cibie Oscar lamps and I'm not sure of the specific wattage...I'll need to check for you.

Allen, you're 100% right Jackson is a nice guy. I just ordered the lights, lets see if I can design a quick jack with the light bracket incorporated.

That's cool! Both you and Jay (Crashburn) have contacted Jackson for lights form my thread write-up. Awesome! Looking forward to seeing how they turn out. I'm sure you'll do a great job with the quick-jacks. Biggest decision now is will you mount the quick jacks as outies or innies..
