Awesome! But as with Cobras, I would be only interested in a true replication of an original car. That's just me though and I'm a little obsessive about stuff like that.

Have to agree with Larry here. Beautiful car and if it is replicated, it should be as exact as possible or it will probably come out as something kind of "kit car-ish" (not in a good way) if you know what I mean.....

The DBR1 is one of my favorite cars. I think that it would make for a great build. There is an inexpensive kit that has just come out of it that uses Miata parts by MEV. Their kit uses the Miata suspension cradles, drivetrain, steering and pedal assemblies in the stock Miata locations. While I think the body looks OK in it's own right it's clear that they took a lot of liberties with it to utilize the Miata parts.
The project that I am working on right now uses the Miata parts bolted into a space frame and body that I am making that looks like the late 50's sports racers. By not trying to replicate a specific car it won't be compared to an original.
Have fun.

g'day,
dbr1 has got very few accessories, less than cobra. my plan is to extend wheelbase 2" and widen 2" as i do for my scratch built cobras. i'm not 100% sure about wire wheels, probably will go to jag d type dunlop like steel wheels.
i've take a look to MEV and Evanta but their body shape is not look very good. i will follow same route as my my scratch built cobra project. 3D model, wooden buck, mould ..
peace,
Ozgur

I'm sure having an exact replica would be nice, but I think you will have more fun doing it your own way.

Take a look at the wheels Aston-Martin used on the DB3S. They must be pretty rare:

Hello Ozgur, I really like what you are doing. Building the body from scratch is quite an undertaking. I admire that.
I thought that you might like to see how my project is coming along. I have the frame done. Now, I'm working on the body. I've moved the Miata engine rearward and lowered it. But, it is still to tall for the hood to shut. I took a damaged hood from my sons race car and rough trimmed it to lay in between the fenders. I'll make a smooth transition from the nose all the way to the rear of the hood. From the side you can see that I lengthened the body. The car has functioning doors. I was testing the hinges. I will have to lengthen the doors to match the body when I have everything set.
Good luck with the DBR1. I will be looking for your updates. I'm sure that it will be spectacular.
John

G'day john,
I'm eagerly waiting for your latest project, since I was so happy with my '91 miata for 7 years.
You're right about dimensions, that's why i've had increased wheelbase to 92" and stretched 2" widthwise.
I'm playing with the idea of doors a la csx2196 "the turd".
That era of circuit racing focused open-top sport-cars are so similar: ferrari 750 monza, devin ss, aston martin dbr1, scarab, maserati 300s, jaguar d type etc.
Peace,
Ozgur
