427 bodyshell dimensions
Hi guys,
I'm a newbie on here and have spent the last hour+ looking through posts for bodyshell dimensions/scans for a 427.
I'm planning to build an all aluminium 1/2 scale replica for my son.
Can anyone point me in the right direction so I can get this project moving forward?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Wow, making a true scale is going to be a task. Even with paper dimensions, there are no straight lines on a Cobra, so even with dimensional measurements, without curve radii, it's going to be a challenge. I don't know of anyone that publishes that info.

I got a mold to make a roughly 5/8 scale body outta fiberglass, might move you project ahead a little faster than knockin' one out of AL

Hi Mr Bruce, thanks for the kind offer, but I'm kinda set on Alu as that's my playing field!
I spent 10 years making aircraft panels in the UK so more familiar with metal than grp.
Also, I'm based in Ireland, so getting a mold/shell from the US would be megabux  |

Yeah, but all those curves are why it looks so good!
I'm finding a few details on the net, but not much.
I was kinda hoping that somebody on the planet might have a 3D scan I can put into CAD n scale down!! |

They probably do. I'd lay dollars to donuts that Kirkham has very precise CAD models. I also would lay you gold to beer they're considered trade secrets and probably would be unwilling to share them.

Beer n donuts could be an option if all else fails, but that's not a bet I'm willing to take! 
To be fair, I'm not expecting one of the big names to give up their secrets, but, I'm guessing that someone on here knows a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy that has some of the info I need. 
If I can get enough dims, I can probably work out the rest!! |

Blue light scanning is a good option. I have used it several times to reverse engineer unavailable parts and other related projects.
I would think you could get a car scanned for under $5k.
The less granularity you want the cheaper the scan. The output will be a CAD friendly file.
It is a touchless scan so someone would likely let you scan their car.

Definitely worth looking into, although I'm in Ireland where Cobras are rarer than hens teeth!
I might have to see if I can find someone in the UK to donate their car for a day  |

I work for Rolls-Royce and that technology is used frequently. My mates in Derby use it to.
Maybe you could get one of the guys on this site to agree to it. I suspect there are several locations thru the United States with Blue Light guys.
For example, I live near Indianapolis, IN and we have a local Blue Light guy. I know there are some in the Detroit area.
If I had a car I would help you out. Mid-Summer mine should be here.

There is a guy who is finishing up his aluminum 289 on FaceBook that used a scale model for patterns. There are decent 1:18, 1:12 and even 1:8. For a 1/2 scale, those could be good attainable references.

Just remembered I made tooling for a guy for a body kit to make a Fiero into a testarossa he took a testarossa model filled it with Bondo and sliced it into 6 inch sections to scale then projected it up on the wall to full scale and copied it and made his plug which I made moles from and it really came out nice
