Besides, I wouldn't want to take all that work away from you, Grumpy!

Good to see you posting again!- Bob

If you lower your gas down be sure that there is now wind blowing on you from outside or from a fan!! 16.5 is pretty low I usually run 20. tig welding is the same 20.

freeagent 427,
Looking at the little Lincolns thas AM, both set at 16.5 and running perfect.
Maybe the lower pressure is the 25 opening on the tip using 23 wire, possibly dunno. Works for years and with the shop fans going full tilt boogie in the 100 degree Texas heat.
We use this combination to eliminate and "dips" or "sprays" the will ruin the average tip and liner on any brand MIG welder.
Try a combination that best suits your welding criteria and feel, this was just a suggestion and not fixed, TOO MANY VARIABLES.

I tried the 16 setting the other day and it worked fine. Using the .025 wire, but haven't changed my .035 tip yet. Haven't had any problems, but need to get to the store and pick up some .025 tips just to be sure. - Bob

3peaks,
NOTE: 0.025 tip for 0.025 wire but using 0.023 wire not 0.025, that way the tip area tends to remain due to the additional slop for the gas to keep it free of spatter and what does collect it will brush free VER EASILY.

Grumpy,
Any luck on getting your computers fixed yet? Hope you didn't lose all your hard drive information.
You did back up, didn't you? Don't ask me why I ask!

Three Peaks,
I am by no means an expert but have a similar Hobart setup. I was having similar problems with jumpiness and puddle control. (no jokes)
The manual for my hobart stresses that wire speed will determine penetration and power will control the width of the puddle. By lowering the wire speed and upping the voltage settings it got much better.

I didn't say you were wrong in your gas setting I just like to run 20 or higher. It sounds like you have built a few of these cars compared to myself only working on one car with many years welding experience.
