I feel for you on trying to get it licensed.

I worked hard for 3 months to get mine done back in 2000. At that time, you had to have a title on the frame, engine or body. We have a Sheriff living in our small town and when it came time to get the approval from from the Sheriff, he saw the vin tag on the firewall that Lone Star has from the state of Texas. He then told me to go to the courthouse and get it finished along with my insurance information.

Well, they would not accept the vin tag, even though LSC was was recolonized by the government as a auto maker just like the big three here in the USA.

I contacted a salvage yard in NY and got a title from a 1966 Ford convertible car frame for $100. I was in & out of the courthouse in 15 minutes with a title !

As far as I feel, the state of Nebraska screwed themselves for over 40 years, by now having a way of licensing a custom hot rod or a kit car etc.
Finally,.....back in 2008, they got their @hit together and now has either a assemble vehicle or kit car for any custom trailer, hot rod or for our cobras.

The government has a bunch of idiots working for them !
Look at the loss of revenue that the states that do not have a provision for custom built cars.

I asked the insurance appraiser to please keep the assessment under 40k so I don't get in the higher tax bracket, and he wrote it for the 40k. So rather than getting taxed for 40k, I pay $26 per year on apx. a $100,... 427 Cobra.

I do not feel guilty at all.

Anyway, fantastic job on the cobra and have a butt load of fun !

Joined this forum last night to research a couple small items for my Factory Five roadster. Saw all sorts of crazy links on the main page and clicked this one under top viewed (which was the first one about cars and not jokes). 2 hours later I realize there is going to be a lot to learn from this forum! Congrats and I hope you are enjoying it.

Default 4 Season Update!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey just thought some of you would be interested in how the build has been holding up since I finished the build. Well she has 4 seasons on the the car, and if you live anywhere north of Missouri you know those are very short seasons.

Well the car just turned a whopping total of 4660 miles, and no major issues. there were/are a few things that needed to be fiddled with, and it had two fuel pump failures. I have been caught in the rain twice,(moving is better than standing still) but you will get wet. Rock chips yes rock chips on the nose and front of the rear fenders along with the pipes, but that gives it patina. Planing a little work this coming spring, upgrade the front brakes to 13" Willwoods, and maybe some seat mods with new covers.

Oh I have been to quite a few shows over the years I an more often than not the only cobra there so I do draw quite a lot of attention (good and bad) some people just cant get over the fact that it is a fiberglass body and how come you couldn't find a real one. Oh and I have a whole new list of snappy comebacks to "I know someone who has one of those in a (insert favorite cache)". I do need to build a nice place to put the Trophies, the dresser is covered, but I really like the ones that are made from old car parts and love....

Still lurking
Patrick

Well, it occurs to me that perhaps not all of the modifications I made are technically 'street legal'

Nothing good ever happened after this statement;
Hey Moe watch this!
