chassis jig question
just got my plans in from cobra restorers and cleaning up the garage to begin welding.
does any one have any good ideas for a jig from doing it before. kind of...
"if i was going to do this again i would..."
what would you do different?

Brian Angliss never used a jig. If you are smart with your welding the ladder frame is the jig and all your measurements come off there. You can cause more problems with weld distortion than a jig can hold anyway. I'll be interested to see what you think of the CR prints. I have a pretty long list of "adjusted" numbers on those drawings. Welcome to the madness of scratch building let the sparks fly!

I know what you're saying but I gotta build something level to fabricate on anyway since my garage floor is on a slant so I'll probably copycat Patrick's design.
so, do the corrections you've made have to do with outright mistakes on the prints or just adjustments that made the design better?
would you be able to share the list?

There's some mistakes and some omissions. I'm positioning the footbox and pedalbox now and don't believe the dimension for the pedalbox is correct. Most of my numbers are marked on the shop copy of the prints. I'd be happy to help where I can. There are many easy to make improvements but I want it as it was. We'll have plenty to discuss here.

good day,
there are lovely laser gadgets now on the market, projecting a square or rectangle into the room.
that hepls dramatically finding the center of the chassis - which you will be looking for everytime you measure.
I wish I had one, but x-mas is around the corner...
3 things come to mind quickly:
from top of chassis to top of scuttle hoop aim for 630mm
cut the rear shock mounts flush to position the trunk tub on the crossmember (of the shocks).
thing about a removeable transmission crossmember.

Hi
I'm looking for cobra chassis/suspension plans and this thread seems to refer to some. Any info on suppliers of such plans much appreciated. |

The Cobra Restorer's plans are available for $200 plus shipping from www.cobrarestorers.com . They are chassis plans with the bird cage included, but they don't include suspension plans. |
