Finally starting
I got most of my front suspension stuff last week from Speedway Motors and today I ordered the steel to start my frame, its NOT going to be 4" round (sorry guys) but it will have the x supports like the original, the main rails will be 2x4x.188 wall tubing, the outrigging will be 2x4x.125 wall tubing. I have been plagerizing many frame ideas from kits and incorperating them into my plan. I am hoping to have a roller ready by spring.

The steel is cut and the frame is tacked together as far as the kick up for the rear axle, have to trim for the proper angle but it's starting to take shape. Will post some pics soon, gotta hook up the corn stove for heat tomorrow morning, with oil over 3.00/gal for #2 corn will be lots cheaper.

Well. . . you have a lot of fun ahead of you. Nothing like designing your own ride! It will be fun to keep up on your progress. The camera icon underneath your user id will take users to your photo gallery. Keep postin them pics. I built a scratch chassis but used a fab'd body. Good luck.

Carl,
where did you get these threaded inseerts? and how are they attached to the tube arm?
it looks like Patrick used nuts and just welded them to the arms.??
anyways I am at that point right now and your way looks real clean.
also are your heim joints drilled and threaded for a grease zirc? I am thinking this might be a good idea for mine. what do you think?

I had them custom made to my specs and they are just a light press fit so they can be removed for final fitting before welding permantly. I think I can send you my wrawing for them if your interested, dimensions can be adjusted to your tubing id. The hardest part was finding a 5/8- 18 LH tap without spending a fortune.
My heim joints are better grade from Speedway Motors with no grease fittings, might have to change that later but time will tell. Carl

Hey!!, I used 5/8-18 Rh thread lug nuts no tap needed rod ends are Q-A1 pro series, good stuff. The lug nuts are longer with a taper that gives you a good welding surface. It's a good thing I'm lurking I've got to watch my back guys, come on.

Carl, i didn't know they were a custom job I thought maybe they were off the shelf in some race shop or something.
Patrick, I saw your way and I was just concernedwith getting the nut perfectly centered.
My heim joints are 5/8" male thread.

I posted some incomplete info on my last post, the bushings on the front are taped 5/8-18 RH and for my entire suspension(4 link with panhard bar) needed 9 bushings with RH threads and 5 with the LH threads and if the upper arms are also made add 4 more of each making a total of 13 RH and 9 LH for this type suspension. I hope this clears up my mistaken info posted before. Also if the pre welded upper ball joint piece is used that will require 2 RH and 2 LH 1/2-20 bushings. Carl

my cost was 30.00 for 14 bushings but I supplied the steel which cost about 5.00 from the place I retired from, it was scrap( short ends), they press in then I will weld them when I have the final fit. If you know someone with a small lathe they can be made easily. Carl

Just a note for those interested A&A Manufacturing ( www.aa-mfg.com)have most of the parts we need for our suspensions, get one of their catalogs and there are lots of parts with dimensions so modifing their parts to fit our projects is simple.
