Hi KevinW,
Say greetings from Finland to Grendon and if they are interested they may sent me a mail to jberg427@gmail.com
My sister live in worcester so maybe it's time to visit again in UK and maybe met some UK base kit manufacturers during the same trip.
Now I will go a bit more north (almost to artic circle, where is already snow) so nice week end for all.

Might be expensive to ship but I could get you an original style chassis if you need one.

That's the trouble I've had with a couple of items to Europe, ridiculous shipping costs.
Any suggestions other than finding someone without too much hand luggage?

first day testing
Hi
I had finally change to made first test to deep draw cobra nose. Soft alumin (1xxx series) was too weak but AISI304 (in pic there is 2,5*1,2m and 1mm AISI 304 sheet) was ok.
I didn't have time for fine tuning but I know now that I can made cobra bodies using material what break around/above 150Mpa (like 6/7xxx seris alumin have). I just need to chage final tools/dies parting lines are a bit different place than this test tool have...
I have some 2mm 5xxx seris alumin sheets so I will test those and send some pic ~next week.

Hi jberg,
Interesting thoughts....here is a link to a Scratch builder that did this for a Daytona and has the plans for sale. BTW he also owns CSX3193.

I will test 3003 some day.
There is those bump in tool for fresh air vents holes what cause that sheet dont flow inside tool as it should do. So no mater what material I use sheet will broke before shape is complete so I just need to locate welding seems a bit different place in final tool. I could remove air vent hole shape from this tool and then get complete part but let see do I have time to do that.

Great project idea!! I would also like to hear more.
Just an FYI, Cobra Restorers sells all the body panels (see attached). They don't list pricing. One can only imagine.....

I have also think this idea and one person here actually ask me to made one hood to pilgrim body.
So if somebody have mold for hood what fit to origin body and if he sent me a one fiber hood skin I may sent few alumin hood "skins" back (and same for doors and boot lid).

Hi
I see that many peope have lately made or been intersted to made alloy body. have this diy idea few year a go so let rise this idea back to light again.
I have made few during last year and I'm doing one just now. I have set of tools and I may do panels if someone is interested to put those together.
Alloy panel are frst riveted together and then cut and weld together.
This pic below is taken from earlied build and this one is sold to one one local builder.
Here in Finland we must use donor car so chassis etc will taken from donor. Thats why I made only skin whitout sub-structure and then buiders will fit these to donor car chassis (like g-body chevy's).
Anyone interested?

Jouni,
are these panels actaully deep drawn? What body did you end up using as a template to make the tools? How much do you charge for a complete set of panels?

Hi
Parts are "hammered to mold". Origin idea was use hydroforming but I should do at least 50pcs series to cover cost.
I bought body negatives from mickmate and made tools using those as a reference.
I have get ~5K$ of set of panels when sold to local builders. Delivery cost to US are high but I'd like to get first body to US market so if you are interested sent me a mail to jberg @ gmail . com and let see what cost will be when delivered to you.

They are the correct shape, if you roll them through a wheel they are pretty nice and very close to finished. If anyone wants a hand putting them together over here I'd like to buck a set up.

Nice work guys......Mickmate, do you happen to know the gentleman that formed the body panels for the 427 that Jay Leno has. He was an east coast fabricator like yourself.

I taught him everything he knows, kidding I don't know him. I guess that was the first replica Cobra built to original specs by the Ferrari guy. He was supposed to make a run of them but after he discovered how much there is into a scratch built, hand made, aluminum bodied exact car and that was the one and only.
Larry someone is working on 289 panels but look at Jounis, take the 2-1/2" strip out of the top of the fenders, swage the wheel opening and change the grill opening and do what they did back in the day only backwards. The whole centre of the car is the same.

Tim knows a guy who has an 289 plug for AL bodies. Thinking of sending him two chassis.
Depends on $$$ though, as always.
