Shelby Autos becomes Shelby American

Name Change Honors Anniversary of Two Legendary Shelby Cars...

Las Vegas – Dec. 15, 2009 – Shelby Automobiles, a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc. (CSBI:PK), will honor the 45th anniversary of the 427 Cobra and Shelby G.T.350 by consolidating its operations under the Shelby American banner. I note the press release talks of the big-block Cobras being made today as the CSX 6000 series. Guess I've been sleeping, as I thought these were CSX 4000 series. Did they run out of numbers, or what? When did these become 6000 series cars?

I think at one point they started assigning fiberglass cars numbers around 4700. Probably about the time those cars started being sourced from Africa and Mexico. I had heard about the 6000 series cars so they must have hit 4999 recently. I think they are still assigning aluminum cars numbers in the 4000 range.

That's correct...a while ago, they reserved the remaining low 4000 numbers for alloy cars...and, as stated, when they reached 4999 on the glas cars, they picked up with the CSX6000 sequence.

Good move. I always liked the name "Shelby American" over "Shelby Autos".
