CSX4000 radiator
Does anyone know what radiator is in the CSX4000 cars? Shelby said it's a Fluidyne but didn't send the part number (they don't have any in stock, and their prices on these kinds of parts are quite high). I did a quick look over the radiator but couldn't spot a part number stamped on it anywhere, but maybe I just don't know where to look.
Mine has taken quite a few rock dings and developed a pinhole leak. Silver Seal works for a while but it still "weeps". I'll probably spend as much getting it repaired and the dings worked out of the fins as replacing the radiator and getting a rock guard screen.
(Note to self, don't drive until the sand removal crews come out in the spring.)

601HP's looks more like what I have. I saw that one in the catalog Fluidyne catalog, but it couldn't be that simple can it? elmarichi's have a filler cap on the radiator, mine does not.
By the way, the cost is worth replacing it. By the time I pull it, ship or bring it to Denver and pick it up, plus repair costs, it's a wash. Plus I'd be down again for a week or more, and I don't think the repair will get the dings in the fins out. I'll get some measurements and see if it is the right size. It does have the support pin in the top so it's a good start.
Also, I got one of the radiator fin unbending tools. They're the same everywhere, I just happened to be driving by Harbor Freight and got it for $5.00. I declare it a failure for these radiators. The fins are short weave - maybe an inch. It takes the #12 but the blade is almost as big as the fin run between the stops. I think I probably bent as many as I was able to fix. I took a sander to it to sharpen the point but that didn't help much. FAIL! At least for this type of radiator construction.

The picture of the radiator on the ebay ad isn't always the same as the radiator you would be buying. See if you can get the seller to send you a picture of the actual radiator- I have heard the one listed on their ebay ad is the right radiator and doesn't match the ad picture.

The auction shows the part number and that is the correct number for the Fluidyne Cobra replacement.

There was some revisions on the Fluidyne 4000 radiators. Some had chamfered top corners to fit others were square corners. Part # is the FHP 30 Shelby http://www.fluidyne.com/pl_hpexotics.html

I knew there was something that bothered me about this. All of the CSX4000 specs speak of a 4 core radiator. All of the Fluidyne references are for a "3 row". Is that the same?

I pulled the radiator today - the car is down for the winter anyway.
Does anyone have one of the Fluidyne FHP30-SHELBY radiators in stock? PM me with price if so.
I will send photos of the one I have to be sure that it will fit as it was an extremely tight fit to remove it. I had to remove the stopcock to get it to come out it was that tight. It will have to have the chamfered corners.

This the FHP-30 Fluidyne Radiator speced by Shelby. Early on it was propritary and could only be had through the dealers.
For my application I modified the angle of the lower outlet and added the bungs for the fan switch and air bleeds.
It is 3 core high capacity, and is really overkill for my 289, but thats what I've got. My understanding is that this is the only radiator used for all ther cars regardless of engine size.

4000 radiators
Shelby uses Fluidyne radiators and so does Kirkham. When I was building my Kirkham in late 2004 I was involved with getting Fluidyne to supply Kirkham with radiators with Shelby's permission. You might call Kirkham and see if they will sell one to you. Shelby own's the rights to the design but since Shelby buys and sells Kirkham cars they didn't mind if they bought radiators from Fluidyne.

Replacement ordered from Fluidyne. Being built now, should be done today or Monday. The Fluidyne president contacted me directly and said the leak is likely a failure due to electrolysis. The new cores have a "sacrificial rod" (similar to a water heater). It's not a free replacement since the rock dings are the primary reason I'm replacing it. The leak was handled by silver seal.
The electrolysis issue is one I'd never thought of. The radiator "floats". I don't even think the engine side fan makes an electrical connection to the radiator. Some additional grounding from the radiator to the chassis is needed. I'll figure it out when I put the new one in.

It came while I was in San Jose. I installed it today. Took about 2 hours to get everything. There is a "slug" but it would need to go into the air vent.
It was hard to get the original out it's such a tight fit. I figured out that the easiest way to get it back in was to remove the Kirkham expansion tank, an easy decision since I'd wanted to put a 180* thermostat in place of the 160*. I never thought the thing got warm enough.
Back on the air.
Tomorrow I'm going to figure out how to attach a wire rock guard that I'll fabricate from some metal screening.
