Sadly this what has gone out to those awaiting an autographed item:

Dear Friend of the Foundation,

We would like to thank you for your support of the Carroll Shelby Foundation. We have received your package with request for an authentic Carroll Shelby Autograph. Unfortunately, due to his declining health over the past few months, Mr. Shelby is no longer able to participate in the autograph program. For that reason, and with tremendous regret, we must return your item without an authentic signature. The Foundation will be offering an alternative option with an autopen Commemorative signature.

In 1991, after his life-saving heart transplant, Mr. Shelby decided to use his position in life to help those less fortunate. He made a deal with “the big guy upstairs” that if he survived he would help in any way he could. Carroll started the Carroll Shelby Heart Fund, today known as the Carroll Shelby Foundation, to support organ and tissue donation for children as well as education. Over the past 20 years Mr. Shelby has given much of his time to sit with his fans and autograph their prized possession. His commitment to giving back has allowed the Carroll Shelby Foundation to donate to a myriad of medical establishments, individuals and other organizations. With the continued support of donors like you, his philanthropic vision will continue.

Please indicate how you would like us to proceed with your request by contacting Johnna at the Foundation at 310-327-5072 or Johnna@cscf.org: the following are the three options available.

¨ Please return my item (unsigned) and my donation.

¨ Please keep the donation, I am a proud supporter of Carroll Shelby and his Foundation, and return my item.

¨ I would like to receive an authorized commemorative signature for a $50 donation to the Foundation. I understand this is not an authentic signature but a simulated signature produced exclusively for the Carroll Shelby Legacy Collection and Carroll Shelby Foundation.

Jenni Shreeves
Executive Director
Carroll Shelby Foundation

I can tell you that I know he has been sick for a while. I sent an autograph request for a glove box in late December. When I inquired about it at the end of Jan, I was told that he had not been in since the beginning of Dec to sign anything. Yesterday, I received an email stating that unfortunately they would have to return my item due to his declining health. So I have known for a more than a month that he was ill. Held my tongue since I did not want to break confidence. I hope he recovers but it does not sound good. Ironically I bought a SPF cobra replica on Monday that was signed by him and got the email the next day. The man is a legend who has created a car that has inspired all the people who visit this site. God bless him...

We all get old . And it sucks. Seeing the generation above me going through these things is a reminder to work hard and get things done, but also spend time with your friends and family. As your time is short, and eventually we all will be off to another job in the cosmos.

Hearing this about Carroll ( and verifying that this is true ) is one of the lowest feelings I have felt in automotive fandom. Regardless what you think about some of the business practices of the companies, his ability to gather a group of people and have thing happen that stood the world on its ear as many times in the 20th and 21st century is laudable by any standard. It made me proud to be an American Ford owner.

Sadly Carroll is sick, but he is a fighter and still is the longest living human with a heart transplant, -- just one more record broken.

I feel badly for his friends that knew him better than we do, those who worked and have had the opportunity to enjoy their time in the dragons den. , Bill, Gary, Lance, John and others.

There will always be cobras, the formula and market has stood for 50 years, and the comraderiy , friendship and problem solving it has spawned thn the thousands of Cobra fans , is something to respect , enjoy and pursue.

this news makes me put things in a bit of a priority order- and go see our friends while we still can.

Once around the coast, and lests stop if ice cream,

Steve

Well put Steve. Shelby is a fighter. Best wishes to him for a speedy recovery.

Just wanted to share this...Cleo is my "friend" on Facebook...

Cleo Shelby
To all of you who attended the Embassy Suites at LAX North on Tuesday evening, I am really sorry I was unable to attend but I really needed to be with Carroll and I can tell you now he is getting stronger and he is now off the sedation and we hope to have him out of the hospital soon. Thank you to all of you for your concern. I hope you all have a great time in Vegas and we wish we could be there with you and hope to see you at future events. Best wishes Cleo
