Need help identifying some Cobras from Monterey Historics
Most likely this year's Monterey Car Week -- including the Carmel and Pebble Beach Concours, the Monterey Historics and the many classic car auctions -- attracted the greatest number of original 260/289 and 427 Cobras that we may ever see together in our lifetimes.
I've put together a list of 120+ originals that were there, and have pictures of many of them ( that is, until my camera battery died on me). I've positively identified about 110 cars so far, but am missing a few and hoped that some of you could help fill in the gaps. Specifically I'm looking to confirm: - that they are in fact originals and not replicas, and
- their chassis numbers.
Not all of the photos are mine, so I've identified the photographer for those that aren't.
The 260/289 Cobras
CSX2063 -- Confirmed
replica (John's Custom Fabrication) -- Confirmed
CSX2571 -- Confirmed *
CSX2578 -- Confirmed *
CSX7041 on display in the Competition Classics tent -- Confirmed
CSX7024 -- Confirmed **
CSX2298 -- Confirmed
CSX2??? blue ***
CSX2439 -- Confirmed *
CSX2237 -- Confirmed
The 427 Cobras
CSX3154 narrow hip -- Confirmed *
CSX3215 -- Confirmed
CSX3253 -- Confirmed ***
CSX3318 -- Confirmed **

Now I'm not positive, but the red slabside (with the Essex Mustang in the background) is a Kirkham. Saw it, or one exactly like it, the weekend before at the Pre-Reunion. Beautiful little car. The guy with the hanging aluminum body shell informed me.

I think I saw the one you mean. It was a gorgeous Wagner-built Kirkham 289 with a Michigan plate (061 422). But that one had chrome wire wheels, not painted wheels like the one in the pic above.

Let's see. Under 2063 is a silver 289 that may be 2271; don't know. Red 289 below that with dual quads - still working on it. Below that is red 289 w/ CA. tag - 2578. Blue #11 and red #24 are not CSX 2xxx cars. Silver 289 w/ NV tag: 2298. Blue 289 below it: ? Darker blue 289: I think it's 2439. Then is 2237 (white/ blue stripes 289); 3154 (narrow hip silver 427); 3215 (dark green 427 w/ CA tags); 3253 (dark green 427 w/ IN tags); and 3318 (red 427 w/ Webers).

Ned, Notice the metal finish of the Webers, design of side pipes, addition of bumpers, wheels. Still think it's 3318?

Maybe not. I thought that was Gary Hunter's car based on where I recall it was parked, but there are some detail differences...

Nope. #11 is John Bessey's "2259" replica. And 2298 is a silver roadster owned by former Trans-Am, star Tom Gloy. 2299 is a coupe.

Thanks a million for the info, Ned.
By the way I finally did identify the burgundy 289 I had asked you about in front of the Shelby Heritage Display. The one that had eluded me all week, like Susanne Somers in American Graffiti. It was CSX2419.

SunDude, Did you happen to notice the
clever body modification to CSX2419? ;-)

At the risk of looking stupid, uhhh, what do you mean? The "289 snake" graphic on the hood scoop?

Nope, did you notice different width wires on the rear with 'stock' street flares?

That guy with the yellow shirt in the last picture had something to do with that subtle modification you're talking about didn't he? I know about that but I'll be quiet on CSX #'s and just take notes ;-)

Nope, you're thinking about the offset machining he did for American mags.
This mod is not a 'machining' change.

The rears are wider, but notice what was
done to have them 'under-cover' ;-)
