CSX2487 sells at Mecum 8/13

Hammer price at $925K.

I had to sign in to see the summary but here's the link:

1964 Shelby 289 Independent Competition Cobra CSX2487 for sale by Mecum Auction

Isn't this a record for a 289/CSX2xxx car (not including coupes)?

LMH 08-17-2013 06:29 PM

CSX2557 was bid to $1,275,000 in 2010 but did not meet it's reserve. So I don't know if that counts or not for a record.
Larry

LMH 08-17-2013 06:33 PM

Oh, I just found that 2557 did sell in August of 2010 for $1,595,000. That may be the record for a 289 roadster.
Larry

Nedsel 08-17-2013 06:41 PM

Nope, not a record. How about over $2million for an unrestored, worm and sector 260 cubic inch street car?

LMH 08-17-2013 07:22 PM

Wow! Which chassis was that?

CXS2121 went for $935,000.00

CSX2332 went for $1,001,000.00

CSX 2034 was very intersting, however I'm sure glad my grandfather knew Luigi Chinetti all those years in NY & Greenwich. That 275 GTB/4 NART spider went for 27.5 million(10% already added).

Do you think that CSX-2430 at the Gooding Auction was bought back by the owner? It was a no reserve sale.

Strong prices for the 2xxx series cars. Few 3xxx cars change hands to know really set a trend but the 3000 cars have gotten 1M+ for a while. The 2000s are closing that gap.

In the past I've seen 289 cars selling for 400-500K so this is a good jump.

Thanks for posting! I knew all but the R & S autos. I tried to keep a thread sometime ago for ones going to auction but it scattered.

The Nicholas Cage 3166 car went for 1MM can see that as it is a bit higher than recent street cars changing hands as it has a start attraction. The other car 3264 DNS at 700k, 289's are taking huge leap forward??

1985 CCX 08-19-2013 08:35 PM

Compared to 2034 this was an absolute bargain.
