4000/6000 Rack and Pinion
While doing a nut and bolt check under the front end I noticed the right side rack and pinion boot had sheared from the rack at the inboard clamp. Searching around for manufacturer of the R & P I found a manual rack at Flaming River that appears dimensionally correct. Can any of you continuation series owners verify that Flaming River P/N FR1512 ( $399 ) is what Shelby installed ??? Nick ??

I would suggest you try to talk with Tony in the Cobra Shop at Shelby American in Vegas...

Use the boots that are intended for MGB.

You got it, get an MGB boot from Moss. Don't clamp it too tight that cuts through them.

the flaming river rack is NOT correct. -from what I have seen,- the cars use a repro MG piece.
keep in mind, your car is 20+ years old and ---what was available at that time (1990 >? )
inserted is a Kirkham 427 photo for reference. ( thank you Kirkham )

Original cars used the Cam Gears R&P, same as MGB with a shortened input shaft. The FR1512 is the modern replacement. I think that's what is used in the 4000/6000's.

Flaming River web site says the FR1512 is for the MGB / Cobra. I will contact FR and see if they sell the boots separately. Moss Motors is option two...........When in doubt Nick will straighten you out..........Cobra poetry.
Nick, there are 40 cars ( 9 Cobras ) heading down to Camp Pendleton Saturday to give some Wounded Warrior Marines a ride and honor their sacrifices........Cheers

PANAVIA, Thanks for the input. The rack in my CSX4017 ( HST built 2007 ) is a Flaming River part and they had replacement bellows available for purchase. Though the Kirkham picture does not show the whole rack it does look similar, if not the same as mine. The Flaming River bellow P/N is FR1501-D. LH and RH are the same. I hope this could help CSX Continuation owners in the future. If for some reason the bellows are wrong I will post that.
Cheers

Moss Motors is in So Cal, as well as many British car parts supporters.
