Shelby Aluminium Bodies made in UK

Hi Guys,

I'm new on here so forgive a rookie question but I thought Shelby bodies were made in Vegas / S Africa or is this wrong?

This company also seems to be officially supplying bodies and chassis?

North Devon Metalcraft | Manufacturers of replacement steel and aluminium motor bodies

They are built in SA, that's not a CSX Roller.

That's the 1000 series cars. When they say finished in Vegas they do final assembly and put a number to it.

Yep, they build the roller in South A, ship it it Las Ang to install some instruments , then on to Las Veg where they put the Vin numbers on Etc.

The text below is taken from the Hillbank website.

CSX1000 series cars feature a Shelby hand rolled aluminum body expertly crafted in the UK and finished at Shelby American in Las Vegas, NV.

Those rollers aren't from SA.

Get the models right. The CSX1000 series 427 Cobras are built in Britian using some of the old AC stuff (exact lineage debatable). I saw to alloy cars side by side - one was a CSX1000 car body (no frame) and the other was a CSX4xxx roller from the Polish air craft factory (argue whether it's Kirkham, same as arguing that a HiTech manufactured fiberglass car is "just a Superformance). Bottom line is that the CSX1000 metal was incredible, and much softer, than the modern version. However, once painted, you can't tell the difference.

Did not know that, and that is cool. I am going to be in the UK for 2 week in July, where are they located, would love to visit them. Thanks for the heads up. George

They are in North Devon hence the name North Devon Metalcraft. If you go see them ask for my mate Paul.

Ally rollers are made in UK, CSX1000's, new parts
They are rough and require full assembly here in the US, saw a couple at Tom's shop in Vegas.
Major difference between UK, Polish and KMS

UK - Very asymmetrical.... Nothing match's and cars different one side to the other. The 1000's were another way to extract higher $$$, they also cost more to assemble I am told as so much needs to be adjusted at time of build.

Polish - Much high quality with slight asymmetry. No longer making KMS cars

KMS - Stamped panels tied together in USA. Very durable and symmetrical.

Fascinating what looks like such a small company supplies the Shelby factory, they look great quality.

Thanks for the clarifications guys.

I didn't realize that the Kirkham bodies were no longer produced in Poland. I wonder if someone might try and connect with the factory to see about manufacturing another aluminum cobra marketed under a new name?

1985 CCX 02-08-2014 11:04 AM

Already doing that, small operation............... Heard coupes were the flavor now.....

BMK 02-08-2014 01:41 PM

KMS Kirkhams are being made totally in Poland..
