What you have there is a cell as it has the bolt on plates at the side and front. You can also see the removable lid that they use to install the bladder. Most of the problems with the cells are caused by that stinkin ethanol fuel. It degrades the foam inside, the bladder and the gaskets between the bladder and plates. Because they are minimizing the number of gaskets and plates the front one does the pick ups and is also used for the (bent and short) sender. The senders don't even start to read until the tank is less than 1/4 full. The pickups don't hold fuel there under cornering and acceleration. I put a trap around pickups to hold fuel there and I relocate the sender to read full range of fuel level. With the spark suppression I'm using inside them I have been both building them and also converting a few cells to tanks. I also make the new ally tanks from a heavier material or from stainless.

OK, thanks MickMate and CobraKiwi for the help. Looks like at some point I will have to drop the fuel cell and have a tank made. I only want to do this once. For now, however, all seems to be well, and I will watch carefully for signs of any developing problems. In a year or so, I plan to have the 427 SO rebuilt, and that would be a good time to deal with this impending problem.

Just replaced my original fuel cell with a baffled tank from Nick. My fuel cell was installed in 2007 and I was lucky to have no signs of deterioration, leakage or clogged fuel filters.
