I did not call out McClusky. I simply stated $20-$25K to paint a fiberglass car is a lot (Congrats to your financial success if u think that is a reasonable price).
I do not know how much McClusky charges, or if he does the physical work himself. Does he paint the car himself?

It's a fiberglass body car. Fiberglass is fiberglass. Shelby didn't reinvent fiberglass or did he?

ASO544, are you considering removing the body or painting it in place on the roller? That will be a big cost difference, of course. I would go with McCluskey's Guardsman Blue myself, but your choice.

If the paint of my "fiberglass roller kit car" had an existing factory paint job that's excellent, then absolutely NO.

If the paint of my "fiberglass roller kit car" was raw fiberglass, say like how ERA sends them to a paint shop, just a body shell, then absolutely NO. ERA has painters that can do a very nice job for far less.

But if my "fiberglass roller kit car" was fully assembled and needed disassembly and then reassembly, had paint that required sanding/stripping, remedial work to be done, then yes, for McCluskey, I would spend $20,000.

However, I would have to speculate that McCluskey's paint jobs are $25,000 and up. They're the best of the best, think "Pebble Beach Concours" and they restore genuine 1960's Cobras.

McCluskey paints glass but not necessarily many glass Cobras.

Does Mike paint himself? Is that a serious question?
Luis has been painting historic race cars at Mike's for over 25 years.
Luis is an absolute world class automotive paint artist - rarified craftsmanship.

FYI, the paint that McCluskey delivers is levels above what's on a CSX. That's no dig to Shelby, btw.

As I said in my previous post, the quality is much better but the cost would never be made back later but who cares.

Some people here pay tons of money on our hobby but make left turns into gas stations to save a penny per gallon... Value is in the eye of the beholder.

I would try really (really) hard NOT to paint it - Very long and tedious process that requires breaking down the entire car to do it correctly. not for the faint of heart (or wallet!)

Yes, but if you take a look at the wiring job in about the next to last or so pic (click on them to get the hi-res shots), it looks like RodKnock did the wiring in a drunken stupor.

Stephan is absolutely correct. To have it done right, you won't see the car again for quite some time and you will be writing a pretty fat check!
Also, as previously discussed in this thread, you need to find someone proven and familiar with working on these cars and the entire process IMHO.
