Csx 4000 - suspension upgrade
Hello,
I own a CSX4000 since 3 years now (I was very lucky I found a rolling chassis that had been stocked during 10 years by the first owner). I installed a Pond 482FE all aluminium engine + TKO600.
The car works perfectly but factory suspensions are very bad, too soft and start leaking.
What I'd like is to replace my current suspension.
Any manufacturer/models recommandation ? I use the car on the street and on track and I absolutly want firmer suspension than I have...
Thanks,
OliveR

Kirkham billet? Are the pick-up points the same? Might want to give them a call.

No I haven't got the KK billet, just the standard from Shelby.
I don't want to modify all just want to replace the shocks.
Thanks,

What is your CSX4000 series cars chassis number?
Feel free to PM me with it if you do not want to post it out in public.

Do we know if it's a fiberglass or alloy Shelby? If it's not alloy-bodied, then it's obviously not a Kirkham chassis.

Cobra Valley offers special kits that may meet your needs, including one for CSX4xxx cars: Cobra Valley's SHOCK & SPRING Suspension UPGRADE
Perhaps others who've gone this route (CSX4xxx or Superformance) can weight in on its merits.

Hi Oliver,
It would recommend playing around with your shocks first. If you have adjustable valving on them, stiffen them up a bit. I can not offer a suggestion on brand or part #, but you can accomplish a lot with a tuned set of shocks! Perhaps contact Olthoff Racing? They have been racing Superformance cars for better than 17 years or so and may be able to point you in the right direction for shock valving, if not provide a solution.
Good Luck,
Mike.

Kirkham's prices are higher than typical, but if can you find those ADJUSTABLE Penske coil over shocks for your Cobra NEW (or even used for that matter) for half price ($1,500 for 4 shocks), then buy them! That's your upgrade.
However, I call BS, unless I see proof. Show me an ad where you can get those shocks for $1,500. I might buy an extra set and put them on the shelf.
And personally, I wouldn't be bargain basement hunting for a CSX.

CobraKiwi also gets high marks. See this thread about another CSX owner sorting his Cobra out:

CobraKiwi (Craig) is great to work with. He just put brand new shocks on my car. He has the correct shock length, spring rates and bushing sizes for your CSX Cobra.
You can see pictures of the shocks on this thread:
Alloy Hi-Tech Build
I would highly recommend getting in touch with Craig.

What I wanted to tell is that you can find adjustable shocks/coil kit for half price of the Penske sold by KK !! There are others manufacturers that can provide equivalent or better products than Penske for half price !
If I cannot find what I want in the US I'll check here with shocks/coil manufacturers that can provide great products for correct price.

Mike my current shocks are not adjustable and start leaking at the rear (the car has 5000 miles on it since I completed it in March 2015). That's why I absolutly want to replace the 4 shocks which are not adapted for race tracks or quick rides on the streets with curves. Thanks for the suggestion.

You may find adjustable shocks (perhaps Koni spec) and coil overs for half price, but they will not offer you the same level of adaptability and/or ride, nor will they be the same top quality of the Penske shocks that Kirkham offers for that chassis.

The Penske units supplied by Kirkham are bespoke for their cars. I REALLY doubt you'll find anything as good, let alone better, for any price.

As MrMustang mentions above, you can find cheaper shocks/coil-overs than Penske. There are Bilstein's, Koni's and QA1's off the top of my head, BUT they're not at the level of the adjustable Penske's.
Over the years here, I've read alot of reviews and I'd highly recommend a search here on the site. All the shocks mentioned are decent-to-good shocks, but there's a reason the Kirkham's use the Penske's.
But if you want to shop the "Blue Light Special on Aisle 13" for your CSX then that's your prerogative.
Good luck.
