CSX Front End Ride Height ?
I have noticed more than one CSX with an unusually large gap between the top of the tire and the fender gap when viewed from the side. It just doesn't look right. I figured these had adjustable coil overs so the ride height could be adjusted.
Can anyone explain why some of them are this way? (Please don't think I am knocking these cars. They are beautiful. Just trying to understand.) Tom |
Well, if I remember correctly, the "correct" ride height I think is 4" from the bottom of the frame for the front, and 4 1/2 " for the rear. They do have adjustable coil over shocks. I know my cars have scrapes on the front body area below the oil cooler ..
I would think the size of the tire can also contribute to the gap, obviously if the tire is undersized. as far as why have some larger gaps, I'd guess you'd need to talk to the owners, or who ever set up the suspension. |
agreed, most people set the ride height very high... I am curious as well

Just as a comment the original cars had a lot of ground clearance. I would estimate at least 6" judging from the old racing pictures.

The discrepancy in front end clearance from top of tire to fender may also be due to how the car is driven. A car that is raced or tracked hard will need more clearance between the top of the tire and the fender as there is a lot of compression in hard corners under speed. A car that is driven just on the road does not need that much clearance as it will not experience the same amount of body roll and compression when cornering.

From CSX3252 or something like that. Remember race cars were lowered. So all bets are off for that! |
