My tires are ready for shipping. Roger Kraus has a few more Avons in stock now. Not too many 225/65-15, a few more of the 245s and 295s.

Hi every one.
In Europe best tires for Cobra are AVON CR6ZZ.
This tires are used on most of classic cars races (Le Mans classic, Goodwood, etc....).
On my CSX4000 i have 245 at the front and 295 at the rear.
They are very nice on roads but on tracks too.
I have these tires on my CSX and on mine GT40 since years and won't change for anything else.
Don't know the price in the US but here we can find front 245 for 250$ and rear 295 for 315$.
Here is a picture of my GT40 with cr6zz painted in good year eagle pattern. 2 hours job but very nice looking !

SD427 - your new Avons look great. The blue streak detailing is well done. The feedback on the work by compclassics seems very positive.

What sizes did you choose?

And so far, how would you compare the drive and grip of your Avons to the previous tires you have had on your car?

225 and 295. Haven’t had a chance yet to drive it hard.

I got my Avon's from Roger and they made a world of difference. I'd love to have goldline stripes on the Bronze beast.

Bella can do both the gold stripe and gold lettering if you are interested?

We actually have a sister bronze Cobra to yours in the shop right now, for modifications other than the tires. The owner had previously already done the “GOODYEAR” lettering to the AVONs, unfortunately whoever did the lettering did not prep the tires prior to installing the letters and the mold release agent bled through the lettering.

Like John & Bella need any more Praise heaped on them Both Bella & I have something in common. I touched every part (Inventory, while in Sequim WA.) on Allen Grant's Lola GT (Father of the Ford GT-40) and before any major show Bella does her "Magic" on his Lola GT. Trust me Allen doesn't let just "Anyone" touch his cars Here's the story of this Lola's life (Allen own's car #1 Prototype of 3). If anyone didn't know the history, Allen & Jay can fill you in. on this Video. Enjoy, Cheers Tom https://www.motorauthority.com/news/...y-lenos-garage

Default Bringing this thread full circle

Just wanted to chime in here with my own replies to the original post regarding Avons and sizes.

Like sd427 and TimG427, I got my Avons from Roger Kraus.

And like CLV8, I got a set of CR6ZZ, with 245 up front and 295 in the back.

And while I dont have much to compare them to yet, they seem to hold a line.

So far, so good anyway.

Thanks to all who contributed their insights and experience to this thread!!

I haven’t had a chance to push my new Avons hard in corners yet, I hope to do a track day in early November, but so far it seems they give a better general feel of the road. I had Firestones on the front, and Cooper Cobras on the rear, prior to fitting the Avons.

Default Can't get new CR6ZZ's

I've ordered new rear tires two months ago from my local dealer, who has ties to Roger Krause racing, but apparently there aren't any available in the US. if anyone knows differently, please let me know ASAP. 295/50VR15's. Tread is getting REALLY thin....

I did call Roger a couple of times and left a message (once, call not returned) and his voicemail box was full the second time. I did catch up with him yesterday and was advised of the new shipment arrival, so should be getting the tires (tyres) soon.

Cheers

Hi while we are on the subject of tires Goodyear has Bluestreaks 6.00-15, 7.00-15 and 8.00-15, what does those numbers translate into the way they Avons are measured.

Are the Avons constructed with platinum belts inside?

Not sure but an American Express Platinum will give you more than enough traction.
