I like the fact that Mr. Dilbert / Mr. Lawyer being the reknowned jurist, hasn't responded at all....

He is about as literate (no offense to anyone from Louisiana)as a fence post.

I did take offence to the so called Louisiana Lawyer because I'm from Louisiana, but it has been found out on Cobra Forum that the so called Louisana Lawyer is actually from New Mexico. His IP number was traced to somewhere I believe in Alberqueci(I know I did not spell it right). He has the same e-mail address on his registration at both Club Cobra and Cobra Forum but he gives his address as New Orleans on one and Monroe on the other. These two cities are at opposite ends of the state. Also someone checked the Louisiana bar and there is no lawyer registered by his name in Louisiana. I was very embarressed for my fellow Louisaianains as well as the club members for this idiot's post, but now I'm relieved to know he is not from Louisiana. I think he is just full of bull and trying to start a pi$$ing match here.Maybe someone will actaully find out who this person really is,I know at least one guy looking into this right now.

What is all the hubbub about the Louisiana idiot. The boys will win the law suite, no sweat. Why waste your time on this guy. He just wrote to stirup the beehive and it seems he has succeded.

This is an interesting group. Just found you all tonight. Just met Turk, he now has 4 tires and 2 wheels for his new car which I just sold him. First off, the CSX4000 cars are really Kirkham cars that Shelby is putting his name on. Nice cars, but made 6000 miles from here. My original frame is NOT rusting from the inside out Anthony, but that is a great story that the dealer told you. In fact, my cars are probably better put togther than most of the kits that are around. As far as kits go, most ARE better than the original until you go to sell them. If people want a nice car, the Kirkhams are real nice, as are many of the "kits" out there. But having been lucky enough to have gotten into Cobras 20 years ago, I have several "real" cars for the price of many of the kits out there today. These cars are not about lawsuits, or whos got a better kit, or a CSX number. Its about having fun. If anyone should be mad or filling lawsuits, it should be the owners of original CSX 2000/3000 owners as we have had our values hurt by all of these kits. But many of us own kits ourselves, and are not in the cars for the money, but for having fun with them. The minute I am not enjoying my cars, or they are no longer fun, they will be sold.

Dear Brian,

I would like to clarify your statement about Shelby CSX series being Kirkhams sold by SAI. That is totally incorrect. As a SAI dealer and having been to the factory I can assure you that the only parts coming from Kirkham is the outer shell. SAI makes the main frame, all suspension, diff, and everything else on the car. I have also built a Kirkham and I can assure you the Shelby is a much better car in many details.
Unfortunately there is a tremendous amount of mis-information about the CSX cars and most people do not know enough about a real Cobra to know the difference.

Jason, sorry for presuming the entire car was Kirkham. The body shells though are excellent. As a potenial buy of either a CSX car or a Kirkham, could you send me info on the diffences between them. Tom Kirkham is taking my place this week on the Cobra 1000 rally in Utah this week and I plan on asking him the same questions when he gets back. No offense was meant to you or your company and I have seen the cars you have put together and they are excellent! Thanks

Thumbs up

John and others,

You wanted to know who else has a CSX car...I am one who does.

I ordered my car in January of 2000, received it in May, and had it on the road in August. I bought a roller for about $52k (it had a few options) and you may call it a kit if you want but I don't.

I wish people in this forum wouldn't be so confrontational. We are all in this hobby / sport for the same purpose I hope.

I chose the CSX-4000 car over the other kits because of the Shelby name and look and feel of the car. The CSX-4000 looks remarkably similar to the CSX-3000, even down to the small details. I know this because of all the research I did while building my car. I also like having an MSO that says Shelby American and is signed by the man himself, a title and registration that says 1965 Shelby Cobra, and a dash plaque that has his signature and a CSX serial number. I am also convinced that this car will appreciate in value and I am equally convinced that many kits (the majority of them) sell for MUCH less than the original owner invested in them.

We all made choices about what car to buy and/or build and this is the one I like. It is not any better or worse than any of the other cars represented in this forum or sport. I have visited this forum many times a week for the last year and I didn’t once think that people who don’t have a real SAI car are less intelligent, less important, or are having less fun. Buying and building this car was just my choice of how to spend my money.

Scott…

Scott,

Sorry that you feel that way.

If there is any confrontational feelings, it was started with Mr. Shelby's latest suit against Factory Five. That's a whole other ball of wax that I'm not gonna get into.

If you look at the dates on most of these posts, they were right after the initial filing of the suit. Most Cobra enthusiasts were royally pissed off at that time and I think the posts reflect the animosity.

Since then, I think most folks have cooled down, I know I have. Most folks see how ridiculous this suit is and see it as nothing more that a nuisance suit. I have goten passed it and will have a good laugh when it backfires on Carroll and Venture Capital. It won't stop me from inquiring and possibly ordering a CSX8000 down the road. I love what they have done with the frame for the CSX7000 & 8000 with the transverse leaf springs, a step backwards from a suspension perspective, but absolutely accurate and beautiful. Probably rides like crap, but who cares!

I think a lot of questions that were asked (in a quite pissed off manner by myself in particular), was due to the misconception or lack of info on the prices of kits and availability to the general public.

My take is the CSX4000 is authentic, an authentic SAI car built in the 1997 to 2000 timeframe, not an ORIGINAL from the 60s.

I still love them, don't get me wrong, if you see my other thread on the CSX8000, I like it and I want one. I have no ill will against the owners of these cars. I have a number of friends that either have them or are getting one built. I just don't like what I see Mr. Shelby doing.

Even a lot of old timers that know him question this move.

I say we let it lay and let the courts decide in 2001. In the meantime, go out and kick some holiday arse in that car!

JM

Dear Cobra Enthusiast,

I am sorry but I tcannot answer all the comments and quesions about the Shelby Factory lawsuits or the quality (or lack of) receptionists at the factory. Thoses are issues totally out of my control. But I do know the cars and believe if you are looking for an ACCURATE Cobra there simply is none better. I would be glad to answer questions regarding the actual cars or send anyone who is interested a brochure about the cars. I am a Cobra enthusiast and would rather talk about cars than politics.

Well, there are certainly a lot of ideas here. One thing is for sure, all of us enjoy the small, sexy, classic look af an AC Roadster, no matter what engine, or what year it is. Notice I say AC Roadster as this is what the car is. I recently lived in the UK, and there are tons of them there as well. Some with Rover V-8, and some with a 6 cly. Will Shelby American go after these guys as well I wonder? Botton line is that while I respect Mr. Shelby, he is not the creator of that body style any more than I am. Heck by now it's almost public domain.
A few truths:
1. If Shelby wins the legal action. Does he really think anyone will come by one of his cars that were interested in the FFR cars? Nope, here is why. Let's say that there are 5 guys. Normal guys like us. They make between 80,000 to 150,000 and don't have 70,000 - 100,000 for a sports car. Does anyone think these guys will pool 20,000 each and go by a Shelby? I think not! No, they will go to another maker of another sports car, and buy it. We. as "Cobra" lovers will have lost 5 future friends, and Shelby will be just the same.
2. I am fortunate enough to have diven an original Cobra in 1971. I've driven a recent "real" CSX. I drove a SFI one, and own a FFR. I think really there is very little difference in any of them. Forgive me, but this is my take. No, I'm not a pro race car diver, just an adverage guy that has always liked speed, the sound of a V-8, and the wind in hair. For my money the current Shelby has nothing more to offer than any first rate replica. And perhaps not as well made as they have not been doing this for years as some car makers have. I can understand the CSX dealers want us all to think they have a vastly superior car, but sorry guys, for my $$ they do not. (the only car I look at seriously is the Kirkham).
3. I hope Mr. Shelby gets his act together and drops his legal action. I really don't think he can win, and there will always be others to take the place of any car makers he is able to put out of business. He is only placing himself in a bad light, this action on his part is the biggest reason I would not consider a car by CSX.
Lets hope for the best, and hope that anyone willing to save, and work for a Cobra of any type can do so... after all guys, that is the American way right?
