Jim, overall I am very glad it is fixed and you enjoy it.
However, I have to echo Pat's implied question - if it was that simple, surely the mechanic should have spotted it right away? I hope some other elementary error on someone's part is not being covered up here, and sorry if I am unfairly questioning the mechanic's abilities, but, really!

The pads can look fine and have plenty of material left and be cooked. Also, if its a race pad thats been cooked, it will never work until its really hot again and not very well. I had the same thing happen and you could not tell visually by looking at the pad. Lets give the mechanic some credit for asking and checking the things that he checked. Scott

Wilf, Unfortunately, it's not my car. I just happened to show up at the right time for a drive with the future owner, who I hope will let me drive it again. Tom, the mechanic, had looked at the pad thickness without removing them and they didn't look very thin to him and there was no brake noise to suggest worn pads (I don't know if these pads have those "sensor" things that scream when the pads get too thin). Tom is an outstanding mechanic who has been a factory trained and certified Ferrari and Lamborghini mechanic for many years. He worked on many Ferrrari race cars over the years at Foreign Cars Italia, so his skills aren't lacking. I guess the very low mileage and the thought that the pads didn't look very thin may have led him astray.

Jim - I guess we have all ignored the obvious and gone chasing down the exotic in our time. And yes, I do know people who just flat refused to accept that they were out of petrol, and wanted to start dismantling their engines!

This happens to the best of us. That is why checklists are followed in aviation and in race car prep. It is so easy to skip over an easy logical check. An interesting lesson for all of us.

Well, I wish that I could say that this car is fixed but it isn't. The existing brake pads had over 1/4" of pad left which isn't much less than new pads and they didn't looked glazed to me but I did go ahead and change the pads. With everything that I have done to this car, the brakes are about 50% better . Unfortunately I still have the problem of the rears locking up. I don't like throwing in the towel on a problem but I feel that they should take the car down to Nostalgic Motors who built the car and see what their thoughts are on it. I really don't want to try to "reengineer" this car when several people have said that when they drove this car at a previous time, the brakes were fine. Thanks for everyone's thoughts and suggestions and to Gary at Shelby for his concern and suggestions. Also, I can't forget Jim Maxwell also who started this tread.

I wish you luck with Nostalgia. Assuming SAI has exhausted their suggestions, I would rather call Baer.
The "easy" fix at this time might be to add a proportioning valve. But I think this would be masking the underlying problem.
Here's what we know:
>We are assuming that the car's brakes operated properly when new. (The original owner should have a good idea how the car braked if he was on a track.) Therefore, all the correct parts and connections should be installed.
>You've eliminated the master cylinder and pads as suspects.
>SAI says there is no balance bar in the system, so that can't be contributing to the problem.
>The correct 7/8" master is connected to the front brake lines.
Therefore, IMHO, only the calipers and brake lines are all that's left.
>Pressure check the brake lines to see if there is a restriction. (You may have done this already, but didn't mention it.)
>If not, swap out the calipers...every Ford dealer has these PBR's in stock for the Mustang Cobras.

I didn't notice if you had changed the fluidso....If the car has been raced you might want to change the fluid. You may be surprised at the how much difference it can make. But it won't fix the bias problem. Ate racing fluid works very well. They make it in blue and gold so complete fluid changes are easy to recognize.

as a matter of fact "yes" "toy collector" i have both and i've been very busy undoing the "high quality workmanship" that "sai" has put into this vehicle. please take a look at my photo gallery which i will be constantly be updating. i will also provide photo comparisons of the "sai" parts to the "kirkham" parts so that people wanting to know the differences will see them for themselves. please stay tuned.......

CSX 70000??????
The funny thing is I have a 7000 (CSX 7034) car and I have had "0" issues. This is the third car I have purchased from SAI with one of my good friends. Maybe it is you! I hope you have good luck with KMP, you may be one of the few.

Damm Allan.....
813 HP / 924 ft/lbs. torque....... Was the motor missing or running poorly? I thought you were going to build a strong motor?? Just kidding. I'm hoping your combining both car stats? I need to come back for a visit, and see just what you have been up to. The 7000 car sounds like a nice addition. See you sometime soon.

allan obviously you have no eye for the details or quality. i'll put my 7000 series up against yours anytime. guess you don't build your cars either. have you stabbed yourself on the sheet rock screws that hold the seats together?

Both of you calm it down and respect the fact that this is a manufacturer-specific forum.
And Allan...oh never mind.

I imagine at some point SAI was turning out top knotch equipment. From start to finish, and without any lapses of attention (or enthusiasm).
I know what your talking about with the drywall screws, and it is supremely dissapointing to discover the myriad of little (shall we say Discrepancies?). Based on every Cobra I have seen (kit or otherwise); Attention to detail is not on the list of options from the factory. Its more of an "owner installed OPTION". Anybody who would argue this point is perhaps naive' perhaps deluded, or perhaps just looking for a good argument.
Dont get me wrong: I've loved these little cars since they were created, but I'm not going to let my enthusiasm for them, override my sense of reality.

Since there seems to be a problem with the brakes still, I'll take a stab at it. The fact that it has so little miles om it makes me lean toward some kind of corrosion in the sytem. I read all the posts and no one mentioned the possibility of stuck calipers in the front. This is a regular problem on bikes that get little usage, the aluminum caliper and steel piston are a common seizure area. You think it's hard to brake with your foot? Try braking a bike with a locked caliper, with your hand. Just a suggestion to the problem.
