Default CSX 7000 series owners

i'm trying to find out how your parking brake cables are secured at the rear wheel hubs as the hubs / uprights on my car do not have any provisions for the parking brake abuttment mounts (the part that is needed to properly actuate the parking brakes). i have contacted "sai" and still awaiting a reply. thanks......john

ok maybe i'm not being clear enough. if you could look under your car and see if there is anything holding the parking brake cable housing at or near your rear brakes / wheel hub? this part is needed in being able to apply tension to the parking brake cable when the parking brake is applied. thanks...............john

p.s. it does not matter what kind of calipers / brakes you are using all parking brakes use the same mechanics........it's like the hand brakes on a bicycle (probably going to regret saying that).

This may not be exactly the same config as you, but here is a pic of the e-brake cable, as it attaches to my Girling-style calipers:

thanks ron
that is the part that has been left off the "sai" rear hub assembly and there are no provisions for attaching that piece to the hub either (there are not bosses on the hub assembly)!

"SAI" I NEED HELP ON THIS!!

..we'll wait until SA responds.

...I have a suspicion that the e-brake actually is fastened and works on the other 50-odd FIA's that they have built.

Perhaps calling SAI directly would be more fruitful?

here you go ron out of all these photos do you see a place that "sai" has provided a bracket, abutment or anything else to provide as a mounting point for the parking brake sleeve? all i'm trying to do here is find out the way that "sai" has mounted this part on other 7000 cars so that i can do the same. since your not a 7000 series owner i guess you don't know either although your kirkham does look like it has the right part on it.

This saga has got to end! I love Shelby, but business is business! take this guys car back and make it right!! This guy got a bad car from the gittyup it appears. It is one thing after another not to mention all the money he has tied up doing nothing. I cannot wait until CSX700? posts a pic of himself driving this pile of Parts. Maybe then I will order my SA ROLLER!!

David,

There are many of us who have these cars with no issues. The part on my car appears to be a simple bolt on item to the brake.

allan a
obviously you do not have the girling brakes. this is what i was trying to learn though. if you have the bear brakes you get the parking brake cable bracket, there are no provisions for the girling brakes it appears. the brakes are completely different in the way the parking brake cable is mounted. thanks for the photo allan. please see the next photo and item #3 is the part needed when using the original (girling) brake calipers (taken right from the 289 chassis manual):

p.s. allan why are you taking this so personally are you a "sai" rep.? anyway i had posted this to the "sai" forum but evidentally there isn't anyone around on that website it's a ghost town.

The difference here appears to be that John is using a Kirkham reproduction Girling caliper and Allan has what looks like a PBR caliper. The PBR has their style of e-brake abutment attached to the caliper and the Girling requires a different style abutment to attach to the upright. It looks like mismatched parts.

The uprights on your car John, do not look like the original or reproduction AC uprights which include a mounting boss for the abutment. They use two 5/16" bolts to hold them on.

I'm guessing you need PBR calipers with Shelby uprights or Girling calipers with Kirkham (or AC) uprights, but without having them in my hands, that's only a guess.

Good luck

i believe you are right in your post. in looking at the above diagram this would be my guess to. when i ordered my car i specifically ordered the girling calipers (see the photos in my gallery of the car being assembled at "sai" and a photo of the order / build sheet) as a option. the uprights "sai" has provided me are some sort of welded up sheet steel. the uprights are NOT kirkham's.

John,

No problem here, you needed some help and I tried my best to help you out. I think that is why Kris asked what type of brake you have, your response indicated that they are all the same so I thought it would be easy to take a photo and post. I guess that is not the case based on what some of the others have indicated.

As far as a rep, I am not. I bought my 4000 car to drive and it has been a real pleasure, nearly 3000 miles since Sept last year. The 7000 car will be running in the next month and look forward to having fun with it. In my area we have a handfull of CSX cars that meet on a regular basis and we all appear to be happy, so I guess you just had a stroke of bad luck. You will forget all of this once you are driving.

Allan
