Importing csx to Canada... please help!!

Hey guys!

I'm planning on putting a deposit down on a csx glass car from Shelby. This, like many of us, has been a life long dream of mine. I would like to import the car to British Columbia as a turn key, but realize that this may be difficult to do.
Also, would the fact that the car has a shelby serial # help me, and perhaps allow me to import the car as not a kit car?
I would rather not import it in parts if possible, and if I did how "taken apart" does the car have to be? I have the drive train here in Canada and was hoping to give it to my shelby dealer and have him install it for me prior to picking the car up.
If anyone has any info that could make this less torturous on me I certainly would appreciate it.

Ryan,
you cannot import a cobra whether it's complete or a roller,period.
Transport Canada will only accept car parts,it would pay to check with them 1st.
I would be very careful before putting down lots of $$ and not being able to bring it into the country.

Ryan;Theres good news and bad news!...The Good news is that you can import a "Kit" car into Canada - such as a Cobra. The bad news is that it HAS to come over in pieces.I recently brought over a Contemporary Cobra and had to go through this ordeal myself!. The frame has to be stripped down so that it DOE NOT contain even one bolt attached to it. If they do find that one bolt attached (anywhere)- The Dept of Transportation will be called and the owner of this frame (You) will have to provide proof of Manufactures standards so that your Vehicle will meet Government codes and specifications.Believe me - you don`t want to go through that!.I am in B.C Canada also and researched this issue well before I bought mine. All the suspension and other trinkets came all on one shipment ( Frame too) with no problems getting through.Once the frame is completely stripped down - One could call it a "Jig" or "Template" to the border people and pay your taxes ...and be on your way.The Border people do not like "Kit" cars and it`s next to impossible to get it across otherwise.Good luck Sir!...Mike

If you are interested in a quality cobra but don't want to deal with the Feds or assemble it yourself, check out Superformance at Macro Autosports in Toronto. This is what I did and it is the easiest way to accomplish the goal of a top tier Cobra "turn key" withouy all the hassles.

How about Can-Am motorsport located in Surrey BC or there abouts?
Are they still in business? They manufacture Cobra kits.

I just went through the import thing with Transport Canada and found it it to be to risky to import a roller because it has to be dismantled so far and is still classified as a dissassembled auto which still can't be imported, and if you do and are caught it is smuggling, or so I was told. A completed car can be imported as long as it Documented to be 15 years or older, with no trouble.
I ended up buying kit in Canada, way easier and fairly priced.
I also have a few documents about importing, email and I will forward them to you.
