Shelby CSX Aluminum Cont. --Wait Time
Any first hand info out there on what the current lead time is from Shelby American for an aluminum roller? An obvious answer is "call and ask" ... which I will ... but I'd prefer to hear from recent buyers or others with reliable information rather than simply rely on the manufacturer's rosy "estimate." Thanks.

Recent buyers? You mean they still make alloy Shelbys?
...while it may or may not be funny, I bet it's not far off the mark.

First off, this should not be in the for sale section. Probably better in the Shelby section, or All Cobra Talk.
Second, you'll have to do some research and make some calls to find out more on the alloy cars. I would tend to think that they aren't as delayed as the glass cars.
Third, there is no "merger" with Shebly and SPF. SPF is building 25 CSXs, 4825-4850, in glass for Shebly. HST is still building glass cars for Shelby and has already started building cars over 4850.

If you want a red Cobra I know where #4226 alloy body is for sale. Don't know the asking price at the moment but I can give you the info. It is very very nice except for the drool marks I've left on it several times.

I sent Gary Patterson at SAI an email today posing five questions on availability and pricing. Let's see if I get a quick response. I have no axe to grind here; I hope he responds by tomorrow and sets a good example, at least at the outset, regarding SAI customer service. I saw on the internet an SAI alloy red car out west somewhere...no price mentioned. By "roller" I mean what SAI calls their "Cobra 427 chassis unit with aluminum body and component roller" last priced at (ugh!) $97,995.

I'd like something in writing...even if only an email...then I'll follow up and introduce myself. But can't argue with your simple and direct approach!

Serious question:
When was the LAST alloy Shelby actually produced?
Kirkham stopped shipping bodies, at least for awhile. Last I heard they MIGHT be supplying them once again. Can anyone confirm the current (assuming it IS current) alloy body source?

Sal...you're correct...moving thread to SA forum.
Rob..I think you might find that, typically, forum users rely on e-mail far more than representatives of various manufacturers...
advice: ...just pick up the phone.

Kirkham no longer supplies SAI...maybe SAI has a couple of their bodies in the pipeline or left over but I doubt it by now. Who knows what all the facts are, but based on what I've been told, Kirkham could not count on SAI living up to their end of the bargain...which in part was to pay the vendor (Kirkham) on time (if at all!). My understanding is that the aluminum Shelby bodies are now hecho in Mexico and the fiberglass units come from the US and SP in South Africa. All second and third-hand information, so not warranted to be accurate. Despite all this, I still hanker for a Shelby "almost the real thing" continuation.

Long time!
I would put money that it will be a very long wait.
I don't mean what Gary says, I mean how long it really takes!
It took them 2 1/2 years to make my fiberglass Cobra, and they can have those made lots of places. There are very few sources for aluminum bodies.
If things don't take a dramatic change, it will take you 6 years to get a fiberglass one!
It has taken Shelby the last two years to deliver 48 Cobra's. There are 150 cars currently on order, at 2 cars a month that's 75 months or 6.25 years!
If they double production, your looking at 3 years! I can tell you from experience that that is a LONG time to wait for your Cobra!
jdog
P.S. I doubt Shelby's delivery problems are due to what type of body.

I think your right jdog about what type of body NOT being the fundamental problem with delivery.
But for any future alloy versions the body is a HUGE problem because of COST. There is no way anybody can supply alloy bodies at a cost even close to competitive with Kirkham. IF Shelby uses another source for alloy bodies the car will be far higher than the currently listed price. Thats my guess anyway...

Once you got the fiberglass version, were you at least satisfied with the build, fit and finish? And was the price you paid the original price you signed up for when you placed your order...or the new (higher) price at the time you took delivery 'lo so many years later?
