Thanks. I like yours too .

If you guys are talking about Dwayne, that's a totally unrelated situation than what this thread is about. Dwayne's car was an alloy Shelby, being built by a dealer. That has nothing to do with the glass rollers being built by HST and SPF. Finishline (LV) is the one who was jerking Dwayne's car around, not Shelby.

Talking Thank You for the Replies..

Thanks to all who replied to my original query.

In regards to who is/is not at fault regarding what appears to be a continuing challenge delivering vehicles, all manufacturers are only as good/bad as their dealer networks. Even the Big 3 have this problem...

It is interesting to me though that the only manufacturer who has an absolutely spotless reputation, at least from my 8-months of research, is one that sells directly and has no dealer network...perhaps that is the only way they can insure standards...

Ah well, that is another discussion I think.

Bob

A year? Your standard seems to be that a year is OK because SAI met a ridiculously extended delivery date. Since they can get a chassis and body from Kirkham in a matter of days, why does it take a year to finish the car? There are guys who could carve the car from billet with a Swiss Army knife in a year.

Well put, I wouldn't be talking up how I waited for an entire year to take delivery of a friggin' car. My common sense tells me not to leave that kind of money sitting in someone elses account working for them instead of me for an entire year. Hell, you can build a 3.000 square ft. house in 8 months. Then there is always that inflated sale price to display the SAI badge.

I agree to an extent, but keep in mind Shelby isn't selling a rebadged Kirkham. Only the chassis itself and the body comes from KMP. Everything else is Shelby. And Shelby "wait times" usually revolve around waiting for parts from outside vendors. Keep in mind that the alloy cars don't use the same parts as the glass cars, so it's not like they could have HST ship some misc parts to LV to finish an alloy roller if they are missing some parts. Plus, Shelby sells many less alloy cars than glass cars, so most likely "stocked" alloy car parts are not kept on hand in large amounts. And lastly, don't forget the alloy CSX cars do not come unfinished, they come fully painted and that takes time as well.

Not making excuses for Shelby, but there are many other things that factor into alloy roller wait times. It's much more involved than "getting a body/chassis from Kirkham in a matter of days" (BTW, that's a whole other ordeal).

Thumbs up Close your eyes & click your heels together 3 times!

If you really believe enough, and you close your eyes & click your heels together 3 times and say "There's nothing like a Shelby" over & over, when you finally open your eyes, this is what you'll see:

Pretty nice car, if the wait don't kill you!

Sounds like some are starting to understand the message.

I have expressed my encounters with SAI on other threads concerning their company and its interactions with potential customers. I had SAI under very serious consideration.
There is no way I would do biz with this company after considering the way they responded to my initial inquiries and follow up calls. With that in mind, and the overall opinions expressed here and on other forums the decision was made a lot easier for me.

Why do some SAI owners get so defensive when criticism of SAI's past and present business practices pop up.
Between the components supplied by SPF and Kirkham, as well as the assembly and completion work SAI does, its a top notch car.
No one is criticizing the quality of the car, informed enthusiasts know the high end aspects of the Shelby.
Of course in the 100K range certain expectations are obvious.
Good customer response is one of them.

I'll bet it takes less than a year for Cessna, for example, to pull together the parts that it takes to build a fairly simple airplane like the 172. Tell me that this requires fewer specialized parts than a Kirkham-based Shelby and less careful assembly. Sure.

But, since jdog showed up in this thread, I'm going to get past my grousing about SAI's lousy production schedule. As I've said here before, you've got the give the Dog his due. That's one wicked cool looking black car. Wait or no wait, I'd say that jdog got what he bargained for, and in spades!

There's just something about that black that grabs me....

Advanced payment of over $100,000 and waited two years.
What would 100-140K earn for you (or SAI) over two years if modestly invested.
This is a good thing?

I ordered a fiberglass CSX in the middle of December (2006) and it is now ready (roughly five months from the time I ordered). I know the delivery times from Shelby have been horrific in the past. However, it seems like they are improving.

I can't wait to get her on the road.

Post some pictures of your engine if you get a chance, you are going to have a lot of fun in that little rocket.

I couldn't agree more. I thought the wait was going to kill me, but the pay off has been more than enough, I couldn't be happier. The car is Hella Cool!

I know I was one of Shelby's biggest critics, but right now I'm one of their biggest fans.

Long live Carroll Shelby! & Shelby Automobiles!

P.S. I didn't like my time in the US Army either, but I'm better for it!
