Aluminum body
Morgan, you can re-body you car for about $25,000.
What did the last aluminum body CSX car sell for?
jdog
P.S. I am very close to doing this.

I don't see what the fuss is all about. The original Cobra's where not built by Shelby, they came from AC Cars, much the same as is happening today.

It's very simple. Shelby has both HST and Hi-Tech/SPF building cars for them. They are CSX cars, built to Shelby specs. They are not "rebadged" anything. They are Shelby Cobras. Just like original Shelby Cobra's were built by AC and sold by Shelby.
Both cars are built to the same specs, but there ARE subtle differences. I have seen several Hi-Tech built cars in the past few weeks, and they have many "detail" differences from the HST built cars. Nothing that makes them any less of a Cobra, just noticable differences if you've seen an HST car. Both are correct, because both are CSX Cobras. Just like there were many differences in original Cobra production details.
And for what it's worth, both HST and Hi-Tech built CSX Cobras are VERY nicely built cars. Anyone should be proud to own either build car.

jdog, I am very happy with what I have. Of course I will say that if you do that you will not get the return when you go to sell it if ever.

In jdogs case, he just might, having put down the money at the best time ever to buy!! While the wait was LONG the price was right (I don't recall the exact amount and wouldn't post it if I did). But I suspect he's one of the few that could re-body and quite possibly break even or better.
...and he's got that coveted Shelby badge, darn, wish I had one...

I own CSX4838, a fiberglass High-tec Shelby (not running yet, darn it). Build quality was beyond expectations. I have driven one of the few CAV built fiberglass Shelby Cobra's and an early aluminum CSX4000 car, as well as Superfomance/FFR/and Kirkham Cobras. My favorite, and the reason I bought mine, were obviously the CSX cars (based on nostalgia, and solidness of the ride). My car was the 16th Shelby spec CSX from SPF, and it looked like they had already built a hundred of them. I have looked at Lyn Parks' collection and have seen the HST cars as well. All have variations and are still very nice.
When we see one flying down the road, we all SHOUT "COBRA!" with excitement and a pointed finger (even when alone!) no matter what brand it is. Personally, I think SAI/XK's/SPF are doing a fine job keeping the dream alive (I'm not being paid for this, JMHO).
Now...Does anyone have a free engine and tranny...I seem to have run out of money (But happy anyway :-).

Sal,
You have owned a lot of quality cars, let me ask you this, will an SAI badge outlast a Kirkham badge in the long run? Do you think, twenty years from now, the buying public will become aware of the specialized qualities of the car and not the badge? It seems to me, right now, the pursuit of a badge name is more important than the quality of the car itself.

I think I could make all my money back!
I don't have a problem with telling what I paid for CSX4795.
It was the listed, 2003 'introductory' price of $39,995.
I installed a genuine 427fe sideoiler in it for another $25,000.
I can get a aluminum body, from some people I know in Utah, for around $25,000.
Something tells me that a genuine aluminum Shelby CSX car for around $90,000 out the door, should be worth at least that!
jdog
P.S. I was going to pay to have it done but, after seeing the "Assembly Manual" that the Kirkhams are so kindly putting together.

I guess I missed your point, sorry. I didn't read "obvious" into any of your observations, CSX cars or otherwise, nostalgia carries little meaning with me. I guess it's important you have observed Mr. Parks collection. It sounds like he has a nice one. Is your commentary an endorsement, observation? Very nice cars, but after that I lost your message. I have no free engine or transmission to offer up.

Slinger...
Ooops...I trailed off when my five year old demanded attention. I was just trying to explain that if anyone was having any concern between the HST cars and the High-tec cars, I have seen them both and think quality is first rate.

If you have a five year old enjoy them now, they grow up way too fast, pretty soon he/she will grow up and wreck your car, and all you can do is smile and remember.

I can honestly say there is no "long term" durability advantage to either a CSX or a KMP. Both cars are the same design, and the parts used are also close to equal in quality. The one advatage that Kirkham has over Shelby is the fact that they continuously update their car, changing any ill designed part, and improving any parts that could perform better. That factors into personal taste however, as to whether you like originality or technology.
As for the pursuit of a "badge name", that is definitely a big factor for some people. I am one of those people. It WAS important for me to own a real Shelby, because that's what I wanted. My KMP was an awesome car, and I will always promote the Kirkhams as the top dog in the Cobra world as far as their cars, and their company. But the CSX number has added value over a KMP to what "I" wanted in a Cobra. So yes, some may see CSX ownership as being silly, and some may see it as being valid.

No not stirring any pot. Just observing the confusion as I read through the various posts on this thread. Many are clearly confused.

It's always amusing to see people get so fired up about modern-day Shelby CSX cars. It's one of the most contentious issues on the forum.
Bottom line--if you want a modern-day Shelby product, then go ahead and order it. The quality is very good and delivery times have improved dramatically. And it is a Shelby Cobra (not original), which is important to some.
If you don't want a modern-day CSX car, then order the Kirkham, SPF, or ERA (or whatever car floats your boat). Kirkham, SPF, and ERA make great cars.
If it's that important to you, and you've got the money, then go buy an original Cobra.
Watching the jabs go back and forth is comical. It's like listening to a political debate.

I believe at least one fiberglass CSX car was already rebodied with a Kirkham aluminum body. I kind of remember the left over Kirkham frame and CSX fiberglass body parts being for sale, as well as the car going into the registry as being modified that way.

JDog,
Not to rain on your parade, though converting the fiberglass car to the
aluminum replacement is not an easy task. You may want to contact Shelby, or one of their dealers on the amount of additional work required, as it is not a simple remove and install.
I had considered the same conversion myself, though later gave up as I am happy with what I have!

Kirkham installed
I was going to have the bro's Kirkham do the swap. It would not be the first CSX car they have installed an aluminum body on.
I hoped that I could sell my 'original' CSX body & cover the installation costs.
jdog
P.S. I'm still keeping my eye on the Kirkham assembly manual post!

You can't really do a body "swap", the chassis set up is different between glass and alloy. Kirkham gets their alloy bodys already mated to the chassis from the factory in Poland. You'd most likely be swapping all your CSX stuff over to a KMP chassis and body.
If they ARE actually doing a "body swap", they'd have to unwrap an alloy body from a chassis, cut the birdcage off their chassis, then fit it to your CSX chassis, and then reattach the body. It would probably be cheaper to just buy a bare alloy body/frame from them and swap your parts.
