Guys (yes, I realize this is an old thread but its a timeless topic)
I just bought a battery tray from ebay which was claimed to be from a CSX4000 appliaction. I plan to add the two G35's behind the passenger seat as S/C had.
Question:
The tray is only 15" in length however the width is 5" thus fine. Does SAI suggest the use of the Optima or G35 for their tray? If so, the tray I purchased was misrepresented and not from a 4000 car. Not a huge deal as a 5" extension on angle steel is easy just an extra job I didn't expect.
Is a true CSX4000 tray the full 20" length?
Thanks guys!

It's however long you make it. They don't "come" with trays.

Sal
SAI does not offer a S/C battery tray? Thought it might be an option? I know yours came in the trunk, ever do the switch?
If SAI doesn't sell a tray I will not give the ebay seller rave reviews.

Some resolution:
From the KMS website,
We place two of them side by side into the 427 roadster, behind the passenger seat. We strongly recommend using SEALED batteries, since sulpheric acid dripping about in hard manouvering will cause problems.
We get ours from Batteries Plus, and you should be able to get a pair pretty much anywhere. It's 12 Volt (2 are run in parallel) 35 Ampere Hours.
The largest dimensions:
8 5/8 inches wide
6 inches high
5 1/8 inches deep
At the base:
5 inches by
7 1/2 inches
which fits our 15 1/2 inch by 5 inch battery tray.

I used a pair of these for my Kirkham. I got them from the local Mobility centre as they are used in electric scooters for the mobility impaired. I paid the equivalent of around $180 for the pair.
I'm looking at making them look at little closer to the Rebat originals with imitation caps and labels.

Those UB12350 batteries work pretty good. At one point, Optima had their 6v batteries on national back order, so I asked my battery vendor what he recommended and he said the UB12350. The fit the Shelby and Kirkham trays nicely. The Shelby tray is longer, so there is some space between the batteries. They use those UB12350's as a battery backup in slot machines, so my local battery shop has literally 100's of them in stock.
Here I thought I was being brainy by finding them, but Kirkham had them in their sites all along.

Do they actuallty crank the FE? I called Batteries Plus and they said they were for scooters. Huh.....
Priced at $80 each and with some spray paint on the base and some fake caps safer than G35 and less costly too. Best part, no acid to deal with as they are sealed.

They may well be for scooters, but a single battery will crank my 427 well enough, let alone a pair of them.

The battery tray I checked out was made from 3/4 x 0.078 angle. It measures 15 5/16 x 5" and has a leg 6 1/8" long under the front outside corner. Jeff will confirm but I believe we used the G35 batteries in it. I will be making some shortly here if anyone needs one or a custom size let me know.

If you use one of the more efficient compact gear reductioin starters you can use lighter cable and the smaller batteries without fear. They pull less electricity by design.

Here are my fake Rebats installed and looking pretty good.
They start the car with no problem at all. However, I do have a Hi-Torq mini-starter fitted and I don't know how much effect that has.

just bumping this thread again....
can any experts out there confirm that the tray for these batteries sits, at one end, on top of the trans tunnel, and then a 6" (?) leg secures the other side to the cockpit floor?
thanks,
kevin

Kevin that's it exactly. There's a picture on my Cobra Parts page of it out of the car. I'm not an expert or a gynacoligist but I'll still take a look at it for ya.
