"..based on" is a bit too comprehensive a reference.
But, it is said that CSX3178 was used as the splash for the CSX4000 'glas bodies. CSX3178 is a one-owner car, still owned by CS.

Dennis Peck and I along with i am sure some others (ohh-- Jeff where are you ) will be writing up a comparison of the SPF and the HST based CSX cars to help customers with questions and technical help.
I have a surprise coming up ....hehehehehe.

Did you ever put together the comparison?

Apparently not. Writing a quality manual is a really, really, hard task. There have been several threads over the years by people, or groups of people, that were going to write a CSX manual... and then you never hear anything again. The Kirkham manual is a good example of just how hard it is to put together.

As I'm sure you know, the Kirkhams did have a "build" thread (14 pages), plus a separate "question only" thread (8 pages) back in 2007:
Kirkham Motorsports Assembly Manual
Also, there are several portions of the Kirkham manual on their website, though as you mention, it is not complete. Maybe when the economy gets better and they hire Joe W. back, it will get finished.

You can liken it to software. The Kirkham bros. have written a "killer app" -- but in the software world the programmers do not write the user's manual for the program. There are professionals whose job it is to do nothing but write the manual -- and they rely heavily, of course, on the guys that actually wrote the app (they have to). But writing a good manual is a skill all its own. It takes pros. That costs money. And, frankly, there just might not be sufficient demand to justify the expense involved.
Personally, I prefer videos. If I had to drop my ERA rear I would much rather be able to click on a vid file on the ERA web site entitled "Doug Shows How to Remove Your ERA Rear" than to thumb through a manual that has mostly drawings (like GM Service manuals). Simple photos without detailed explanatory text is the last preferable.

I thought maybe he had done the comparison of the HST and Hi-Tech built CSX cars - that would have been interesting. Sounded like a precursor to the manual project.
Why not start a CSX manual on a wiki somewhere and make it a collaborative project?

That's been proposed, it goes for a little bit, and then craps out. The CSX owner's club should just get together and solicit "pledges" and then someone spearhead the operation to hire somebody to write it. Otherwise at the most you'll end up with a series of essays on a few different topics and not a clear, concise, organized manual. But the spearheading job is a big one as well. Photos really help. Any good manual should have tons of them, IMO. But that's not easy to do. The three volume service manuals (thicker than the Manhattan phone book) for my other cars don't contain a single photo. The ERA manual has some photos, but I'd like to see more.

Actually videos are probably the most cost-effective approach. Have one guy video as the other guy does different jobs and explains the steps while he's doing it (like drop the dash, for instance), then just provide a parts list including who made it, where you can get it, etc. But...... it just ain't gonna happen.
Let me go out on a limb and say that I believe most CSX owners don't work on their cars. If they did, there would be a bigger demand for a manual.

I'd happily volunteer a pledge if we could get enough people together to make it worthwhile for someone to manage the project. Anyone interested?

Not surprising given that you have a manual...
Thanks for the lead on the scales. I will also get help setting it up, which is great.

Working on it- but one would need more than 1 car completed to accurately do a manual.
I have been distracted with SPF2734 and the 6 Speed upgrade recently. ( not to mention actual work) Currently working with a Shelby dealer (Dennis at Dynamic) and Shelby distribution to see what we can do about a manual to take care of these things.
To your point though -- It does need sponsorship - even if I put it (a pdf) on the web the bandwidth bill is considerable.
Let me get done with my meetings with Shelby tomorrow and I will update this post.
(Note: I want to make a CSX manual that wont get us sued...)
I have enough things going on , I don't need to defend us against a suit because I am offering 3rd party support for a first party problem,
---Lance says this is a non-issue, but I would like confirmation from the Mother-ship before dedicating any serious time to it.
Steve
more news as it happens. --

Why can't we just post it as a sticky in this section and park the PDF on flickr or something like that?

Yep, Steve needs bandwidth, he can be a little long-winded.
(just kidding, couldn't resist).
