Shelby Ranchero / Shop Vehicle???
Hi everybody.
We just picked up this 67 Ranchero and the person we got it from claims he bought it from Shelby in 1969. Apparently it was used as a shop vehicle from 1967-69 and Shelby special ordered it from Ford. The previous owner claims to have an old registration with Shelby's Name on it (confirmed by another friend) and we ran a Marti report on the car and has a special order code.
It was ordered as a 390, 4-speed, Maroon with white interior. It had Hurst Wheels and a 428 when the previous owner got it. He removed both and installed a 351/auto and Keystones.
We're looking for any kind of photos or any other info of the car that might exist.
Here's a pic of the car now. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Ranchero-types that "may" have been Shelby's were discussed a while back on SAAC Forum. Nothing definitive, though.

In one of my books I think I remember seeing a picture of a shop car Ranchero, I will look.

Pete Brock's Falcon Sedan Delivery now sits in the Shelby American Collection, in Boulder, CO. Under the hood is a "Full Race" Cobra 289. The hood has never been open when I'v been there.

Well, I'm sure Carroll had owned and driven many cars in his life, probably even had a VW bug at one time.

As an FYI, and unfortunately for your theory of this being a Shelby shop truck back in the 60's, SAI and Carroll himself were very tight with their money, most of their shop vehicles were 6cyl powered as it cut down on the repairs and upkeep on them. Also, SAI usually ordered white vehicles as it kept with their fleet colors (this is well documented elsewhere), so a Maroon vehicle would have had to be repainted white making the special order by SAI a moot point. Keep in mind, a special order BB Ranchero is still special, just not connected with SAI. I suggest you stick with the known facts of the car and not embellish what it is not based on whatever story you were told by the previous owners.

Yeah the picture I saw was of a Falcon and it was white with a blue stripe not a Ranchero.
