Default Slightly Larger Bob's day at SAAC 27

I included a couple of photos that I took on Saturday at SAAC. I didn't take too many of the cars, etc. because I already have lots of them from other events anyway. But these are just a couple of the highlights from being able to walk around and join in on the festivities with a historical icon like Remington.

It's amazing who you're able to meet and get introduced to at this type of reunion (Besides the fact that we all got in for free!). There were alot of old familiar faces, and getting to be a part of the private reunion gathering inside of the banquet room at the speedway on Saturday was great too. Remington was definitely the hit of the afternoon, as almost everyone was pleasantly surprised to see him finally attend a SAAC event. There were alot of old friends that he hadn't seen in almost 30+ years. I was glad to be a small part in getting him to attend and I felt like I was his personal body-guard/agent.

There wasn't too much time to walk the pits/garage areas afterward, but we did get to meet some old friends from our SoCal Shelby Club who were running their cars that weekend.

And this is the hat that was given to Remington and every former Shelby employee at the event. I got him to sign and date it too. (He doesn't like wearing hats anyway! )

Bob
That was one heck of a day--wished we would have had the opportunity to meet. I know you've been looking forward to it.

Were you ever over at the SAI camp?

Default Doggone it!

Bob...
...that's the problem with events of this size; I was probably 20 feet from you when the originals/original employee pictures were being taken.
(i guess I should have looked up )
...I was the guy they kept yelling at to get out of the picture... or, at least, one of them. I was busy snapping images of all the originals.

I had the pleasure of meeting and talking to Bob Johnson for a while... (felt a familiarity with him, knowing Cal's car like we do.)
That was an amazing day.

Yeah, we did take a quick pass by the SAI trailer, but we were pressed for time and couldn't seek anybody out. Remington doesn't have alot of patience to just stand around and look at static displays, so it was a quick fly-by in the vendor areas so we could keep his interest. Very little time was actually spent outside of the covered garage areas. He still can't believe that anyone has any interest in these Cobras and Mustangs; to him, this stuff is just too slow.

While we may not have met on Saturday, there were still plenty of other friends who did see me above the crowd.

Bob was easy to spot. One of the police helicopters got tangled up in his hair.

Bob Marsh introduced us all to Tweety, who is quite a character. Same thing--wonders why anyone gives a dam* about these cars.

Spent some quality time with Dick Smith--he was more than impressed with the track.

Loved hearing the history of the Turd--had a 427 when it was at Sebring, before the two 390s. Can't believe nobody's tried to make a replica of that thing from an FIA base. The drop down doors would be great for us larger folks.

The REAL people that attended were as impressive (to me at least) as the cars.

Jamo, once upon a time one of the kit car mags indicated somebody was making a repop of the Flip Top. It was in one of those ubiquitous "Manufacturer's Guides" they run about every other issue. I even recall they had a thumbnail-sized picture of what was clearly a fiberglass body, right out of the mold. It was hard to see due to the size, but it was obviously longer in the nose than a typical Cobra replica, and had cutouts for the cooling slats found in the "hood" area of the Flip Top's body. Needless to say, I immediately wet my pants and started counting my pennies. That was probably fifteen or twenty years ago. My pants have dried, I still don't have enough pennies, but it's irrelevant because I never heard another word about that FT replica. One part of me wishes somebody would replicate it, another hopes no one does because it is such a unique and legendary part of the Cobra story...

Big Bob, I continue to be in awe of your ability to befriend all of the Cobra loremasters. Next I know you'll be telling us about how you got invited to a sleepover at Bobby Bondurant's house. Nice guys do finish first.

Sorry about your hair but Cal and I have warned you before to duck around helipads and airports.

Bob

I have just been notified by Rich Mason, via Terry K., that I will be the press agent, guardian, spokesperson, waxer, tire checker, for the infamous Flip Top at Laguna Seca. Any calls or donations to view the car can be directed to me. For those of you who are interested, you know who you are..................

Anyone know how to put a piano hinge on the bottom of a Cobra door?

Cal--tell Rich I'll buy him a hamburger if I can take a few measurements. He was woofing one when I took my picture, but I let him put it down first.

Snakeyes--glad to hear about the pants. I have the same mixed feelings about a Turd replica--ok only if I have the only one.
