Mystery Cobra II: Who, What, When & Where
Not what Charles Hurlock at AC had in mind, but an interesting styling exercise, nonetheless. If someone tries to sell you CSX 2451 at a reasonable price, you may not want to buy it "sight unseen". Thanks, Ron, for putting up the pic.

I think..1964 Mercer Cobra.
Designer is Virgil Exner and it cost over $100K to create in 1964.

At what speed does that thing get airborne? Big wing of a hood on the front ought to get it to lift as high speeds.

That is the Exner Cobra called the Mercer Cobra. It was borne out of a story that Virgil Exner, father of the tailfin when he was at Chrysler, did for Playboy on the subject of Retro cars. The Copper Development Assn. in Detroit came up with the bread for a Cobra show car and Exner designed it and it was built in Italy, with lots of copper. The car was shown at Pebble Beach a few years ago and is probably one of the lowest mileage Cobras in the world. I believe to convert it back you would have to shorten the wheelbase a few inches. I have a magniicant color drawing of it from the Henry Ford Museum but can't figure out if the drawing was made after it was done or before it was done because usually the car changes from the drawing if the drawing is done before.
