Ron,
Here is a link to different races in 1964. Look under Meadowdale.

Cool site
I looked at the race prior to Meadowdale at Greenwood - the guy who finished second there (and ahead of Jim Hall!) was my ex boss Bill Wuesthoff in his Elva ....a 2 liter!

Is that really Jerry Hansens daughter or are you kidding? I never knew Jerry or even met him, but I did see him race at RA June Sprints every summer. It was almost a given he would win the big bore events.

Yep, and Courtney Hansen makes continual references to her Dad's passion for motorsports......saying on occasion she grew up around hot cars.

Jerry Hansen owned CSX 2026 for just one season ('64), and didn't have a great deal of success with it (based on what records we have). There is a photograph of the car while in his ownership, in the metallic maroon he painted it, in Rinsey Mills' book AC Cobra on pg. 99.

Echidna
I have always enjoyed watching the Echidnas race at Elkhart lake. I would have to believe that they are a blast to drive! Did they only build like 5 or 6 of them? One of them is being auctioned off at Barrett Jackson this year I believe.
Cal - How would you compare driving 2189 and the Echidna at their limits?
Mike

Mike:
They only made three of the Echidnas. I will be bidding on the one at BJ. That one is the Staver Car which won the B/MP SCCA Championship in '59. My car--the Grierson car-- won C/MP that same year.
Actually the colored photo run put up by Ron is the #3 Echidna--the Larson car--owned by Steve Steers of Lake Forest, Illinois.
Have never driven either car close to the limit, but the Echidna is a very dicey car to drive---feels like your are on ice without actually being on it. Definitely, crude, high powered 50s iron.

Cal,
Good luck on the bidding! It would be pretty sweet to own 2 of the 3 built. I think they are gorgeous cars.
Is the car you currently own the one Jim Bartlett use to race at RA a few years back. I think there was one year that Steers and Bartlett both raced at the Brian Redmann Event. I love watching the class they race in with the Devins, Listers and Scarabs.
Do they have their own chassis or do they run a Corvette/other frame?
Mike

Jay Kline Chevrolet (Twin Cities) was the sponsor of these vehicles, many hi-performance Chevrolets/Corvettes came from this dealership. I had a '65 Corvette that was ordered out of Jay Kline Chevrolet. They used a made up chassis, I think Buick control arms. They were back yard hot rod cars but they ran.
The Vintage Motorsport book, "Specials" goes into detail about these and other hot rod road racers.

Jim Bartlett owned the Staver car--the one that is for sale at BJ. My car was formerly owned by Jim Riopelle of Denver, Colo. Both Jim and Steve have run a number of years together at Elkhart. They share paddock space with Doug Karon who owns or used to own a number of BoCars.
They are all good friends. Bartlett, as a kid, knew the families that built the cars (the names that I listed above). His parents were good friends of the builders and they belonged to the same Country Club in Hibbing, Mn. which is on the Iron Range.
I have a picture of Jim's mom with one of the owners in the Echidna, sitting outside in the parking lot at the Country Club, cigarette in hand with all these huge 50s Lincolns and Cadillacs parked in the background. What a sight.
