Default New Book on Road Racing Specials

There's a new one about to be released on specials from 1950 - 1970:

Note that Amazon has it for about $20 off list price, plus you can get free shipping...

Thanks for the heads up Bob, if I am insistent maybe somebody will get it for me as an early Christmas present. Hopefully there will be something on Listers in there.

I just received my copy of this book today. It is a pretty thick volume with coverage of many, many sports racers. The descriptions are often brief, and the pictures are mostly small, but I doubt there is a more complete encyclopedia of these cars in print.

There is coverage of Shelby American, Scarabs, GT40s, Echidnas, the Ol' Yeller series, Cheetahs, Chaparrals, Cunningham, etc. etc.

Alan, I am a little surprised that there does not seem to be an entry of any sort on Listers. Of course they were built in the UK, but given that they were modified and raced by the likes of Hall and Cunningham, I would think they would merit an entry.

Anyhow, if you want a one-stop source for info on just about any sports racer made in America between '50 and '70, this is probably the book. There are probably better sources for if you want more in-depth info on some of the more popular marques, but I don't think that was the intended purpose of this one anyhow.

Dave, this is an all-new book by Harold Pace and Mark Brinker. There have been a number of books on American road racing specials (Allan Girdler and the staff of Vintage Motorsport magazine have each written books that fit that description, for instance), and you probably have one of those--

The Echidnas, I hope, have more pages detailing their exploits than the Scarabs...............

Nope. The Echidna coverage is confined to a footnote at the end of the Scarab section that says, "There were also some other specials racing at this time called Echidnas. Named after an Australian monotreme whose distinguishing characteristic is the use of the same orifice for reproductive and excretory functions, these cars were basically Devin-bodied '55 Chevys and were likely built after a long winter and too much Peppermint Schnapps. Remarkably, they ran pretty well."
