Vintage film of CSX3009
More info on these historical films....
The treasure began with the help of Clay (Foosh)...who deserves the credit for pursuing this...
Clay met a fellow on another car forum who, in the course of discussions, mentioned that, as a kid, he worked on the pit crew for a racing Cobra. Further probing revealed that it was the Essex Wire car, CSX3009...one of the earliest independant 427 Comp cars...with a long racing history.
(I will continue to refer to him as "this fellow", since I have not secured the permission yet to use his name online....but. that's coming soon.)
Well, this fellow said he was sure he had some old 8mm films 'in the attic' of a race that he worked.
It turns out that the race was Pensecola SCCA, in April 1965. CSX3009 was invoiced in that month..so this is the first outing of the car in a sanctioned event.
Clay pursued further and convinced him to get the films transferred. He did and we got a copy post haste.
The films chronicle the whole weeked of racing...in the pits, on the track.
Further...SAI had a team there and we have rare clips of Bob Johnson and Tom Payne running their 289 Comp cars.
I am in the process of doing frame grabs of some of the crisp scenes and extracting internet-ready clips... this is some great stuff!
Clay...I owe ya big time!
Here is the first of the few clips that were extracted...this one features CSX3009.
Hope you enjoy this stuff as much as I do.

Ron,
Great stuff!
Is there a place in this forum/site where these can be stored for access anytime? These films are treasures for the future generations of Cobra owners.
Great job,
Jeff

X-rated!
I got a little stiffy, watching that! Wow!
It's like watching old 8mm porn movies!
Or so I've heard!
jdog
P.S. Thank you both, this film should be on the 'Speed Channel'!

Thanks guys. Really neat to see CSX3009 in action. I think my two favorite cobras are CSX3008, the Hal Keck/ Archway Ford car and this car CSX3009 with Skip Scott driving.

Some other interesting cars and drivers in this race includes Augie Pabst in a Chaparral, Charlie Hayes in the Lang Cooper and Charles Cox in a Cooper Ford (ex Shelby King Cobra).

...and there you are!
I just got off the phone with Garrett, new member here... user: 63Corvette.
(Garrett has a '63 Z06...)
He was the donor of the vintage films and I thanked him on everyone's behalf.
Glad to see you registered and posting here......welcome.
Garrett has let me post the film clips and the stills....we had an interesting chat about some of the sidebars to CSX3009's racing...I'll share them here.
Now, let's see if I can get another clip up today!...

...something for everyone...a Lola for Johan...some nice open cockpit cars for Chuck and Paul....
To the track..and thru the pits...

to Garrett, Ron, and Clay.
Thanks for allowing us to share this bit of Cobra history!
Magnificent shots on those brief clips so far. Lots of other great cars there that weekend. Unbelievable.
I would also certainly be up for a copy of a DVD, if it becomes available.
Cheers!
Dave
