Like Sal said, typical of many charities to pass along a fraction of what they take in. Close them down? Thats not the solution. Better laws? Perhaps, but I'm not sure even that will help. Choose wisely where you give. You want a signature? Pay for it and be happy.
Interesting point Ron makes concerning assets being tied up in the cars. I'm sitting on a ton of equity in my house, big deal, I'm hardly 'rich' from that!

please take the time to read
As director of the Carroll Shelby Children’s Foundation, I’d like to share what is really happening with our organization. Please read Carroll’s comments on our website ( http://cscf.org/jul07letter.asp) that explains how our donations are being used to establish a perpetual endowment so the Foundation can make grants for years to come. Once you read his message, I’m sure you’ll understand our goal as this is a standard practice for major charities worldwide.

A fool and his money are soon parted
What a tolerant country we live in. We tolerate $5 cups of coffee, $3+ per gallon gasoline, sports stars that abuse and kill 100's of dogs - but I have to draw the line somewhere - and it starts with sick children. According to the article - CS has taken in millions of dollars since the start of this "charity" and dolled out next to nothing to these sick kids. Ignorance is no excuse here.
Take a look at Paul Newman - and how he runs his charity - it's a model for the industry - every penny goes. Pick up the phone CS - call Paul - make it right - quickly!
Take a look at the Shriners - they run an entire network of hospitals (for children) across the entire county - all free of charge to all!
Overhead - please - some paint pens, some FedEx boxes, and a girl to fake signatures a couple of 100 times a day - yea that costs 700K!
This autograph "charity" is a scam - and now a "bank" is going to help them manage "their" money - give me a break. What if you were the guy at Barrett Jackson that just spent over 500K for that Mustang (with the thought of helping kids) only to find out that your money ended up in some bank - and helped no one.
If this guy wasn't a celebrity - he'd already be behind bars. This whole thing is sad. It's sad to see someone exposed like this (even if they started with good intentions) - and it's ultimately the saddest for the sick kids - who could really use this money.

I made a hobby out of this "charitable contribution" business a while back. The law states that these charity marketing organizations must donate a minimum of 15% of the proceeds to the charity. One in particular that pissed me off was the Marine Toys for Tots program. They made it look like the solicitation came directly from the Marines and gave an address that was on "Marine Base Blvd." I did a Mapquest of the address and it was a small office in an office park on a short street by that name. When ever these folks call - Fraternal Order of Police etc. etc., I always ask what their contribution percentage is and it's always 15%, with 85% slated for marketing expenses. There's a huge industry of these outfits doing just that. By the way, I'm not stingy. I have been raising two Phillippine kids through Children's Internationa for 10 years. I just prefer that my money be used to help those that need it as opposed to making Porsche payments for telemarketers.

Isn't this the topic that got the Semko's (sp?) banned from the site a couple years ago?

Sal, I am not saying there is something wrong, but it sure does smell like fish. Possibly it is all legit? I don't know, I am not his accountant, but when you toot your horn saying this money is for a fund. Then that is where it should go. At this rate sooner, or later the numbers will be made public. Information on how the money was spent is what we need to know before we can call out the village idiots, and rope,,,,,lol

Thanks for the update Jenni, I will take Carroll at his word on this issue and hope the foundation does well in the future.
Until then, shake hands with the right, cover your wallet with the left...

I read the article by cscf, and that makes sense. Unfortunately before I could finish my thought I did an exhaust system, and then returned to finish the last sentence, and post it.
I think the author, Kathy Jackson, along with myself owe CS an apology. For very deep, and personal reasons I get sometimes over protective of kids....SORRY CS

This organization is a 501(c)(3) Public Charity and is required to file an IRS Form 990 or 990-EZ which is a public document. Returns filed through 2005 are available to view by anyone.

A-Snake, thanks, but where do I start to find this? Out of curiousity I would like to look that over, and I am sure I will find many other charities to look at too. I think the reply by Jenni pretty much clarifies things.

A Google search of "Form 990" will yield http://www.guidestar.org/news/featur...rstand_990.jsp from here you can search for any charity.
The guidestar.org page will also explain the form 990 and how to read it.

Thats a cold statement 427 S/O, and one I don't care for 'proof' of either way. I can say this, if it WERE possible and you had the money I'm sure you would take a number and wait your turn. Yeah, and pigs fly!

Seems according to the post by Jenni, they may be trying to turn things around,I hope they do, only time will tell..........there still is NO excuse for the way the things were run in the past........
Kids are near and dear to my heart, I do volunteer work with the local Make-A-Wish Foundation and just a few months ago a dear friend of mine at age 42 died in the hospital awaiting a heart transplant, he had been on the waiting list for 6 years!!!!!!!! He never once complained of anything, instead, was thanful for the life he had lived so far, he was still active up until about the last 6 months, where he was so weak he could not hardly walk anymore.... Not only was he about the nicest guy you'd ever meet, he was one heck of a drag racer and one of the best transmission mechanics in the area.........
BTW: According to the History Channel, CS is the longest living heart transplant patient in the world right now and I DO hope he holds the record for many more years to come.....

Interesting how the article leaves out the part about the accounts being in the Caymans.

Can you back that ugly observation?
Or are you repeating some BS rumor.
That is a very intense statement, I sure as hell hope you understand the implications of what you are saying.

Yes it was, so please take heed and remember to NOT compromise anything....including Brent's site that uses the word "cobra" or you'll be opening Pandora's Box.
Remember, anything and everything that is posted on a public website is considered "published" and subject to all legal ramifications.
