Default Shelby driving the Lone Star

A few months ago I saw floating at the top of my pile of stuff
a photocopy of Shelby himself driving the mid-engined Lone Star.
I believe the copy was from industrial auto supplier publication. Now I've lost the copy but does anyone have that original publication? The car is now owned by a historian who is patiently restoring it. I saw it on a used car lot once back in the Sixties. It is mid-engined , 289 powered with a ZF 5 speed and looks like a pregnant Lotus Europa with a removable roof. I gather that Shelby showed it to Ford but they were not interested, though within two years same time Ford invested millions in DeTomaso to build them a mid-engined car.

Looks somewhat similar in design to the 427 Super Coupe except for engine position.

Default Looks like open version of super coupe

Yes it does look like the Super coupe but Pete Brock has never
mentioned doing the Lone Star. I think it was all done in England.
At least one of the engineers was one who worked on the GT40.
I would call its styling a cross between the Lotus Europa and the Ferrari p3/4 with a little pregnant guppy thrown in.

Thumbs up Lonestar and Carroll Shelby

Ad with Shelby and Lonestar was for 3M Products. More information on this website: cobraferrariwars.com. Geoff Howard of Danbury, CT has just about finished restoration of this car.
