Fresh air vents above footboxes - queery
Hi,
Have only posted a few times here, so I hope i put this up in the right place.
I have some originality questions, hoping folk here can help:
On the original S/C cars, did they have 2, 1 or no freshair foot vents mounted above the footwells?
Do the modern CSX cars have these (I'm guessing yes)?
If present, where did the vent tubing terminate? I beleive the front side vents on the S/C cars were for brake ventilation, but used for footbox ventilation on road-going cars?
I have some pics of a geniune 60s CSX rebuild, and i think i can see evidence of a foot vent part-broken on the drivers side. Looks like nothing on the passenger side, but maybe wrong.
confused ,
Kevin

Hey Kevin, originality forum is probably a good place for this question. You have it figured already, street cars had 2 cable operated foot box vents with hose from a snorkel behind the front grills to the footbox flapper valve. Comp cars used the small grills at front as intakes also but had short hoses to brake ducts.

Comp and S/C's had footbox cooling for driver side, but not on the passenger side.

Does anyone have any pics of the footbox vents on the original S/C? I would be really interested in duplicating the vent.

Kevin the hi heat vent hose cost more than $150.00.
As they say, "if its worth doing, it's worth doing right"!

Check ERA's website for pics/drawings/details. Ventilation to both footboxes has always been part of their engineering design. While they probably won't sell you the parts, you can at least see how it's supposed to look and operate.

Thanks again. I meant £150 (pretty sure i can get the vent and cable for this here in the UK ), but that was excluding the tubing. is the type of tubing important?

I installed footbox vents and it makes the car so much more comfortable on hot summer days. I used bilge blowers and dust collector hose. to close them I used blast gates controlled by 2 choke cables. There are pics in my gallery.
Cheers Greg
