Default Quick Release Steering Wheel on a Shell Valley Setup

Hi Guys!

I have another question! I have a Shell Valley Steering setup with a Shell Valley 3 hole deep dish steering wheel. The rubber is gone in my Double U-Joint Steering Shaft Assembly. Since, I cannot find anyone to sell the rubber in the end of the shaft. I am going to have to buy a new one.

Well I am sure all of you know how these projects snowball! I got to thinking, if I was going to replace the Double U-Joint and since I had the whole column out anyway, it would be cool to have a detachable steering wheel!

Also I need a new center cap for my steering wheel, does anyone know of any cool one? The one I had was a chrome cap with a glued on Cobra emblem on it (like the ones on the front and rear of your car).

Does anyone have any guidance that they would like to share, before I buy someone parts that I will never use?

Once again I appreciate everyone's help!

Thanks,

Killer

BTW, the end of Shell Valley steering column just slips on and is held by 3 bolts. It is not threaded like some other ones.

Thanks again,

Killer

killer are you talking about the rubber down by the steering rack?? That is called a rag joint. I would call Shell Valley and see if they have one or can tell you what make and year you need if you don't want to replace your steering column.

Thanks Byron, I will look at Speedway columns.

Thanks SVMCobra, that is the rubber that I am looking for! Since I do not know what make and model, I will give them a call this morning (hopefully they will tell me).

I appreciate the help!

The rag joint is just a standard Ford rag joint. We don't stock them but you should be able to find them at a local parts store. I've found them before in the "HELP!" section where they have door handles, window cranks, and other bits and pieces.
As for the quick release, we use a standard GM 3-bolt hub so the racing quick release units such as what speedway (www.speedwaymotors.com) work great.
