Default SVC guys with 17" wheels...

I am looking for the overall height of an "average" or "common" 17" wheel / tire combo- from the floor to the top of the tire. I am trying to compare them to the wheels and tires I currently have on my chassis (which will be used just to move the car around), so that I can install the transmission crosmember- as the manual says to install the engine so that the carb base on the intake is level.

The tire currently on the back is pretty tall, so what I am thinking is if the tire should be 2" smaller in height, I could raise the front of the frame 1" to compensate, and then level the carb base out to figure out where to bolt the crossmember in.

Also, I know that 295/50 R50's will fit, but these numbers mean nothing to me, as I have no idea how tall they are.

Thanks,
Greg

Hi Greg,

My front tires are 235-45-17 with 24 psi are 24.5" tall. The rears are 285-40-17 with 26 psi at 25.25" tall. I didn't have my wheels and tires on yet when I installed the engine and transmission. i just made sure the frame was level on the jack stands when I leveled the carb base. It worked out fine. HTH

You can find what you're looking for at tirerack.com. Here's a direct link to the specs for the Michelin Pilot Sports. Other manufacturers may differ slightly but they'll be close: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.j...e1=yes&place=0

Hmmm...OK, that makes sense. I never thought of it that way, as to level it with the frame itself. I guess the frame should be pretty level, as the pipes are bolted to them. LOL

Thanks CJ for the link. I will check it out. And thanks Terry. I forget how tall the ones are that are on it now, but I will go out and check.

Thanks, and have a great weekend!
Greg
