Doug, I have read others indicate the same because of incidents where, say during a collision, a person's head can snap back against the eye-bolts that the harness clips into and crack the skull. Depending on your height, I suppose that is possible (among other things).

I installed the harness bar because it was safer to do so versus not having one at all (again, because of my height and the factory cross-frame mount was too low).

Eye bolts mounted in the rear bulkhead? I think you'd have to be a midget to pull that one off.

No Patrick. The eyebolts that mount on the after-market cross-bar. You are correct in stating that bolting any bracing from the bulkhead takes very small people once the body is mounted.

OK, I'll do some measuring and may go out to a local race shop and get their perspective as well with me sitting in the car.

What about just cracking your head on the cross-bar? Not as bad as the eye bolts penetrating your skull, but still could be enough to do the job if you are rear-ended. Obviously when on the track, we have helmets, but on the street?

You have a thin piece of aluminum separating you from the engine and the gas tank, as well as two fiberglas potato chips for doors..

...and you are worried about getting hurt by eyebolts?

I used the Finish line cross bar but I bought better all thread rod, SS nuts, and washers, and heavier SS tubing from the recent EM in florida. They used the tubing behind the bumpers. You could ask for any lenght. The shoulder belts are a personal adjustment . Ideally you want the shoulder strap anchor point to be just a little lower than the drivers shoulder. Too low and it could cause spinal compression, too high and in doesn't contain the driver when needed.

Reviving old thread.

The Backdraft Cobra uses roll-bars of 1 5/8" diameter. Would the Finishline 1 1/2" clamps fit over the Backdraft tubes bearing in mind the extra size required for the rubber insert? However, Finishline does not have stock of the 1 1/5" ones and they do not respond to emails. Maybe one of you guys have an inside line to Taylor at Finishline to ask when will they get stock again...?
Has anyone dealt with these guys yet? https://www.pythonvehicles.com/interior

It seems the only place to try and source these would be Finishline, if I can only get them to respond. Both CobraRestorers and Python Vehicles do not stock the 1 1/2" versions.

Are there anyone out there who has a 1 5/8" roll-bar cross-member that they would like to sell? I am not getting any joy out of Finishline...

Using a 1 3/4" roll bar clamp from Bryke Racing and a stainless steel M8 marine grade eye-bolt and a 20mm stainless steel tube, I made this cross member myself. I still have to replace the second clamp bolt with a M8 stainless steel bolt. The assembly feels sturdy and strong. I can adjust the height according to my shoulder height for my 4-point harness. The inside of the brackets are lined with a soft rubber lining.

Does any one know the source for the mounts used on the Finishline setup? (black part with eye bolt only)

I'm investigating in an option to use the mounts only, on the cross member behind the bulkhead (above the tank) on my 289

I bought this 1 1/2" roll bar cross member and grommets From Finish Line Cobra Accessories before 2010 and now in 2020 I want to buy another set of both. Finish Line Cobra Accessories currently is only showing 2" roll bar stuff. Where to go now? Look at the dates. I need a current source please.

I have an older EM that I bought over twenty year ago The original builder built it for competition at Virginia City Hill climb. It had the single black roll bar of 1 1/2" material. all points go to frame. More than ten years ago. I intended on changing out the Simpson belts that he had used , latch link lap and Y shoulder harness. I was recently surprised to find was a Simpson product from back in the day. The single anchor strap came through the rear bulkhead wall still way lower than an adults shoulders. Two separate shoulder straps would be at an even lower height. My fix was the roll bar cross member sold by Finish Line Cobra Accessories. I did say over ten years ago? Then they had cross member it a kit form that would clamp onto 1 1/2" roll bar tubing. made of 2 inch tubing with welded clamping ears and a rear stabilizer boss and a rubber pads to take up the difference between the inside of the 3"od tubing and the roll bars 1 1/2" OD, two forged eye bolts and two 3/8" bolts for the clamp and a long length of chromed 3/4" tubing over 1/2" all thread. I used the clamps but added a longer3/8 grade 8 bolts to incorporate jam nuts I replaced the long chromed tube with a piece of 3/4"OD 316L stainless tubing with 0.065" wall thickness and Stainless washes with 1/2' ID hole tigged to each end to center the all thread in the tube all cut to fit the stabilizer on the rear of the clamps keeping the clamps and eye bolts facing forward. I finished with 1/2" SS 1/2"x 13 nuts and acorn nuts Problem is NOW Finish line Cobra Accessories only has roll bars and roll bar stuff for 2" . I did find a club member that answered my thread on the Club Cobra and happened to have the 1 1/2 roll bar cross member un used in the box for the second roll bar I'm planning on installing The roll bar cross member makes an anchor point at the correct height ( just below the height of the occupants shoulders) for anchoring two shoulder straps . Or you can look over on FFR and see an ACTION custom built welded and powder coated to fit your roll bar roll bar tubing OD and Center to center for $385 each. I saw an all black cross member but I supposed you could get any color you wanted. Still a clamp on cross member.
