Questions for the oiling system with my new side oiler engine.
I just talked with Doug (what a great and knowledgeable man he is) from Precision
Oil Pumps. He is supplying the Blueprinted Melling Ford FE High Volume 1/4" Pump, for my 527 ci. side oiler motor.
He's sending a spring & shim kit, and explained how to adjust the psi, to what the motor needs. Even the difference between the engine dyno tunning, because I will not have all of the extra
oil products hooked up versus the finished engine on the chassis dyno. He also said you will get a different psi between conventional
oil and
synthetic.
The spring/shim kits are-
60-65 psi
65-80 psi
100 psi (with all the system connected, I may need the big spring)
So, with having all of these extra oiling products below, how do I determine the best engine PSI and oil capacity ?
Canton RR 8 qt. pan.
Canton Accusump- 3qt.
Canton Accusump Electric Pressure Control Valve Kit.
Remote oil filter adapter with either 1 or 2 oil filters. (no decision yet)
Oil cooler.
Several feet of braided hose lines.
And anything else I've missed.
Is the answer just to connect everything, fill the oil pan with say,....10 qts.
run for several minutes, shut it down, let it sit for a while (even overnight), then check the oil pan level to see if it's at 8 qts. ?
What I can tell you is, I'm sure I won't go
synthetic oil because of the high amount of oil needed for this system, and the extreme cost.
I'm after the "just right" amount of oil,.... not under or over fill the engine.
Those of you that have this type system, I would appreciate photo's of how & where you've located everything.
Appearance is also very important !
